The second set forStar Wars Unlimited, Shadows of the Galaxy, has just been released, and with it, a whole new string of Leaders to build your deck around. The best leaders of this set havebrand-new abilities and a fair amount of manipulation. Much like the previous set, some of these Leaders will rise and fall, and any of them could be strong with the right build. That being said, some are stronger right out of the gate.

Leaders inStar Wars Unlimitedfunction as the centerpiece of your deck and what you want to build around.Leaders have two sides, the horizontal side being active for most of the game and the unit side coming into battle to save the day. In this set, there are a lot ofnew mechanics that will heavily determine what direction you want to take them.

There’s Only One Way To Get This Exclusive Disney Lorcana Card

An upcoming Disney Lorcana card will only appear in an unexpected package, and it has enough advantages to be worth paying attention to.

10Gar Saxon: Viceroy of Mandalore

Vigilance/Villainy

As a Vigilance Leader, Gar is focused heavily on control. However, he isquite conditional as he requires his own units to be upgraded. This could be a good thing as it might make your opponent think twice about putting Bounties on your units, but overall, it means his ability isonly active when upgrades are out.

The new Bounty Keyword allows you totarget an opposing unit with an effectthat benefits you when defeated.

The best thing about this is thenewDarksabercard, which allows you to play it on any Mandalorian without paying the Aspect penalty. However, Bo-Katan Kryze and Sabine Wren are Mandalorian leaders withless conditional effectsand can use the Darksaber a little better.

9Moff Gideon: Formidable Commander

Command/Villainy

Moff Gideon is one of thestarter decks in Set 2ofStar Wars Unlimited. Much likestarter decks inLorcana, these are great decks to get into the game and allow you to get a feel for the mechanics of the various sets. Moff Gideonsynergizes incredibly well with the Imperial traitand is excellent at getting cheap units out and making them better.

However, that is one reason why he is a little lower ranked than others. Ifhe runs out of steam, he may not have the higher-costed Imperial unitsto make it to the end game in longer matches.Grand Moff Tarkinfrom Set 1 has similar synergy, and theExperience token can be a little better than the +1 for one turn.

8Jabba the Hutt: His High Exaltedness

Continuing with the Villainy trend,Jabba the Hutt wants you to control many resources. He does give out bounties to units as desired, which, if defeated, allows him to play a card that costs one less. The biggest problem is that it does make him conditional, and heneeds a lot of resources and attack powerto get going.

However, if you make it to his deployment turn, hecomes out with a whopping 12 health, the most of any Leader so far. This makes him much more challenging to get taken off the board, and he can continue handing out bounties and playing cards for much less. This can allow him tooverwhelm the board with cheap units, but more aggressive leaders in this set can do that at a cheaper cost.

7Bo-Katan Kryze: Princess In Exile

Aggression/Heroism

Bo-Katan, our first Heroism card to make the list, can get fairly aggressive quickly butcan also hold out into the mid-range game. Her ability is still conditional, but less so than Gar’s. She just wants a Mandalorian unit to attack so that she can do extra damage. She has a fairly standard deployment turn and gets to doextra damage with her Mandalorian friends.

She also has more access to powerful Mandalorian cards likeSabine Wren: Explosives Artist, The Mandalorian: Wherever I Go, He Goes, and The Armorer: Survival Is Strength, which can buff your high-powered units and keep them alive to continue pinging damage. The Darksaberon Sabine is a powerful move, even on the unit version, making Bo-Katan a potential killer Leader.

Magic: The Gathering’s New Cards Are Breaking A 25-Year Tradition

Magic: The Gathering has been releasing a lot of new types of cards, and some from their upcoming tie-in set are breaking a long-standing tradition.

Cunning/Villainy

Our first and only Cunning Leader to make this list, Cad Bane excelsparticularly in limited formatslikedrafts inStar Wars Unlimited. He gets to deal damage whenever he plays a fellow Underworld card, and his deployment turn gives him Raid 2. This extra damage makes him dangerous in Limited, particularly with alarge volume of Underworld cards in the booster packs.

His main weakness is that if he does not make the right draws,he can fizzle out of steam, but cards likeDarth Maul: Shadow Collective Visionarycan make him incredibly deadly if he’s deployed at the same time. He is also a littleless conditional than some of the other Leaders in this set. Check outGolden Dice Podcast’s videoto see more.

5Rey: More Than A Scavenger

Vigilance/Heroism

Rey is a verystrong control Leader for the Heroism sideof the team. Like the Luke Leader from Set 1, she can give out tokens to other units. While Luke gives out Shields, she gives out Experience tokens to small units. She can be fantastic in Limited, especially with a lot of the new grit Wookie cards, and she has amassive Restore 3 on her unit side.

Her biggest downside is that, like others, she wants smaller units. However, she can hold out longer with smaller units due to herVigilance aspect and having a large amount of board control. She can also playKylo Ren: Killing The Pastout of aspect without penalty and have a powerful attacker on the board.

4Boba Fett: Daimyo

Command/Heroism

Boba Fett in Set 1 wasone of the strongest Leaders in the meta, particularly as afan-favorite character inStar Wars. In Set 2, we get a Heroism version of him from his appearance in theBook of Boba Fett, and he is still fairly strong. He has access to Boba Fett’s Armor if he wants it, but his main abilitygives out a +1 attack when he plays a unit with a keyword.

The Smuggle keyword allows you to putcards in your Resource area into playand replace them with the top card of your deck.

Fortunately for him, almost every single card in Set 2 has a keyword, such asSmuggle, Bounty, Grit, etc. He retains most of his stats, save that he costs 1 more to deploy, and is particularly strong in Limited formats where Set 1 cards are off the table. He is still alittle weaker than his Set 1 counterpart, but it would probably be unfair if he was not.

3Qi’ra: I Alone Survived

Qi’ra is another control Leader as a Vigilance card, but unlike her counterpartIden Versio, instead of focusing on healing,Qi’ra focuses on Grit. She can deal damage to her own units and give Shield tokens to them, considerablyboosting any Grit unitsfaster than they would be otherwise. Check out a Vigilance match-up with Rey and Qi’ra inUnplayable’s video.

The Grit keyword gives any unitmore attack power per point of damageon that unit.

On her deployment, sheheals and damages everything across the board, friendly unit and opponent unit alike. This immediately boosts her to a 4/8, and with a lot of strong control, she has a large board state with lots of Grit units. And, if you’re able to get aFirst Light: Headquarters of the Crimson Dawnout, you can become particularly lethal in the late game.

Star Wars Has Set Up A Lightsaber Duel Like Nothing We’ve Ever Seen

With Vernestra Rwoh and Qimir’s characters and unique lightsabers introduced in The Acolyte, Star Wars may reveal its best lightsaber duel ever.

2Kylo Ren: Rash and Deadly

Aggression/Villainy

The villain side of Set 1 struggled to keep up with theSabine WrenLeader, but Kylo offers advantages that give him a strong, aggressive start for a rush deck. His action allows him todiscard from hand to give units extra damage. He wants to dump most of his hand, which can force him to run out of steam. However, if he’s used correctly, he should win before that point.

The goal with Kylo is to win fast, and he is thecheapest Force unit to deploy on the villainy side at only 4.Kylo’s TIE Silencerlets you play it from the discard pile, putting a strong space unit out early. If he makes it to turn 4, he can bring outRey: Keeping The Pastwithout an aspect penalty and heal multiple units to get the last edge of damage inbefore the mid-game takes over.

1Han Solo: Worth The Risk

Like Qi’ra, the young version ofHan Solohas avery strong Grit game. What makes him great is that he can pay for larger units faster, getting big units on the board that his opponents cannot for the low price of 2 damage. With the introduction of manyGrit Wookie cards in Set 2, Han is the one to beat, with strong Wookies taking over the board. To hear about Han Solo’s performance in a Pre-release event, check outEpic Action Gaming’s video.

It is also very thematic to seeHan team up with Chewbacca and all his Wookie friends, making it great for aStar Wars-themed game. Han then can even play out of aspect cards a little cheaper, making it even better. You will want to look for cards likeLet The Wookie WinandWookie Warriorto make this deck inStar Wars Unlimitedsing.
