Summary

The Egghead Island arc, also referred to as the Future Island arc, is the first major arc ofOne Piece’s final saga, and it’s slowly approaching its conclusion. With how everything in the most recent chapters has played out, there shouldn’t be much left in the way of story, and once it’s done, it will likely finally be time for the Straw Hat Pirates to go to Elbaf.

One Piece’s Egghead Island arc is almost over, and it’s been a great experience from day one. Between the antics of both old and new characters, amazing lore drops, and incredible action in both the anime and the manga,Egghead Island is likely to go down as one of the best arcs in all ofOne Piece.

Luffy dives into Egghead Island in One Piece

There are a few moments, in particular, that make a perfect case for why that is, and each one of them is more than worth highlighting.

10Dorry & Brogy Make Their True Triumphant Return To The Series

Chapters 1106-1107

Even though Luffy had returned to Gear 5 and Bonney had taken control of the Pacifistas, Egghead was still surrounded by the Marines, and to make matters worse, Saint Saturn had dealt a lethal blow to Vegapunk. Things appeared to still be looking bad for the Straw Hats, but suddenly, they received new aid with the surprise appearance of the Straw Hats’ old friends, the giant warriors Dorry and Brogy.

Dorry and Brogy reappeared earlier in the Egghead Island arc alongside Shanks, but their arrival on Egghead can be seen as their first proper reappearance, and overall,Dorry and Brogy appearing with a fleet of giant warriors to save Luffy was the best way to welcome them back toOne Piece. Their various feats of strength against the Five Elders only further solidified that, and with any luck, the Elbaf arc will take that even further.

9The Blackbeard Pirates Get An Incredibly Cool Moment With Saint Saturn

Chapter 1107

As Luffy and Sanji prepared to fight against Kizaru, Saint Saturn, who was blown away by one of Luffy’s attacks, suddenly encountered Van Augr and Catarina Devon of theBlackbeard Pirates. Devon touched Saturn as part of a mysterious mission, her likely now being able to transform into Saturn, and as Saturn attacked them, Augr just stared at him before teleporting the two of them away.

The Blackbeard Pirates’ arrival on Egghead had been teased for a while, and it was a truly great showing for them.Catarina Devon and Van Augr’s complete lack of fear for Saint Saturndid a great job of highlighting how big they’re supposed to be in the world, and Augr’s moment was made even better thanks to his recent appearance inOne Piecefiller. It was a great moment for the crew, and whatever it leads to will surely be even better.

8Bonney Realizes The Full Potential Of Her Devil Fruit

Chapter 1118

InOne Piecechapter #1118, The Straw Hat Pirates had inched closer toward their exit from Egghead Island, but Saint Mars was still giving them plenty of trouble. As Luffy activated Gear 5 again, he told Bonney that she could use her powers to help him, and with her belief in Nika revitalized,Bonney used her Age-Age Fruit to enter a Gear 5-like stateidentical to Luffy’s.

Bonney’s character arc revolves around her struggle to regain any semblance of hope after everything that happened to Kuma, andBonney deciding to become her own symbol of hope by becoming Nika, herself, brought her arc to its logical conclusion. It’s a great moment that paid off everything both Bonney and Kuma have had to deal with, and it’s sure to become one of the most iconic moments of the Egghead Island arc, if notOne Piece, as a whole.

7Shanks Proved Why He’s An Emperor In A Single Attack

Chapter 1079; Episode 1112

After the reveal that York was the one who betrayed Vegapunk, the story shifted focus to various events happening outside of Egghead Island, starting with the fight between Shanks and Kid. While Shanks initially wanted to take things easy with Kid, his Observation Haki gave him a vision of Kid devastating his allies, so he took Kid out in a single hit before he could cause any trouble.

There was never any way that someone like Kid would defeat Shanks, andShanks defeating Kid with one of Roger’s signature attackswas the best way the story could have gotten that point across. It was a perfect way of reminding people how strongthe Four Emperorswere supposed to be, and above all else, it more than justified why Shanks had been put on so high a pedestal for decades.

6Garp & SWORD Came To Koby’s Rescue In Incredible Style

Chapter 1080

Continuing with the brief interlude from Egghead Island, SWORD, the covert branch of the Marines, arrived on Pirate Island to save Koby from the Blackbeard Pirates. Each member of SWORD showcased incredible abilities against the pirates, and it was all capped off with Garp causing destruction with a massive display of advanced Conqueror’s Haki.

After all the build-up to Koby’s rescue,One Piececertainly didn’t disappoint. Not only did all the members of SWORD quickly establish themselves as powerful and entertaining characters, butGarp’s Galaxy Impact was the perfect way to show the flaunted power of the character. Everyone’s actions on Pirate Island only got better from there, and Garp, in particular, had an incredible showing against Kuzan and the rest of the Blackbeard Pirates that sent his character off on a high note.

5The Five Elders Reveal Their True Colors In Terrifying Fashion

Chapter 1110

With the Giant Warrior Pirates providing aid to the Straw Hats, Bonney having taken control of the Pacifistas, and a mysterious message playing around the world in response to Vegapunk’s death,Saturn was left with no choice but to summon the rest of the Five Eldersto Egghead. Just like Saturn, the rest of the Five Elders took on giant, monstrous forms, and they immediately used their mysterious abilities to turn things back in their favor.

The full reveal of the Five Elders’ fighting forms more than lived up to its hype.Every member of the Five Elders has a transformed state that looked monstrousand unique, and the fact that they were revealed in one of the first double spreads with no additional panels in years highlighted that even further. The rest of the arc has gone to great lengths to show off just how powerful they are, and after they spent 20 years just sitting on the sidelines, it’s been great to see.

4Ginny’s Death Solidified Kuma As One Piece’s Most Tragic Character

Chapter 1098

Two years after Ginny was made a slave of the Celestial Dragons, she suddenly called Kuma and the Revolutionaries to say that she was released because she was about to die. Kuma knew that Ginny would have been calling from their home on Sorbet, but by the time he got there, Ginny was already dead, leaving nothing behind but a crying child Kuma swore to raise as his own.

It was one thing for Ginny to die before Kuma could even try to do anything to save her, butKuma running off to find Ginny before he could hear her say she loved him one final timeonly added an extra layer of tragedy to their relationship. If there was any part of Kuma’s backstory that best exemplified the tragic nature of it all, then it was undoubtedly Ginny’s death.

3Kuma’s Backstory Ended Up Showing How Beloved He Truly Was

Chapter 1102

AfterKuma’s backstorybriefly went over some of the events ofOne Piece’s pre-timeskip era from Kuma’s perspective, it finally reached the final portion when Kuma was completely stripped of his free will. Vegapunk tearfully remarked that Kuma was a hero for everything he’d done, and before Kuma’s was essentially killed, he gave Vegapunk one final request: to wish Bonney a happy birthday.

The montage of Kuma with all the people who cared about him whenever he was at a low point, combined with the final scene of Bonney crying after learning the truth about everything, perfectly drove home how tragic Kuma’s story was, and overall,Kuma’s backstory made him one of the best-written characters in all ofOne Piece. Seeing his past come to a close was heartwrenching, but fortunately, things weren’t over for him in the present.

2Kuma Punching Saint Saturn Was The Most Cathartic Moment In All Of One Piece

Chapters 1103-1104

As Saint Saturn revealed the truth of Bonney’s birth and her powers, Bonney’s resolve crumbled to the point that she was going to let Saturn kill her. Before he could do so, though, Kuma, still miraculously acting against his programming, protected Bonney from Saturn, and with a furious scowl on his face, Kuma launched a powerful punch at Saturn’s face.

One Pieceneeded a major palette cleanser after Kuma’s backstory, and Kuma’s big moment against Saturn was the perfect means of accomplishing that. Kuma saving Bonney was one thing, butKuma landing a massive punch on Saturn after everything he put him and his family through was nothing but cathartic. The extensive detail put into the art helped sell that even further, and there was no better way for the story to follow up Kuma’s backstory.

1Luffy & Lucci’s Rematch Became One Of One Piece’s Best Fights

Chapters 1069-1070; Episodes 1100-1101

As CP0 began their assault on Egghead Island, Luffy and Lucci ultimately crossed paths for the first time in two years. The two of them almost immediately started fighting each other, with Luffy using Gear 5 and Lucci using the awakened form of his Devil Fruit, and despite a good performance from Lucci, the fight ended in Luffy’s victory.

Luffy and Lucci’s rematch perfectly highlighted how much the two of them had grown since they last fought over a decade prior, and the anime managed to take that even further, asLuffy and Lucci’s fight in the anime had some of the best animation of any fight inOne Piece. Both the anime and the manga did a great job of bringing back one of the story’s most iconic rivalries, and overall, Luffy and Lucci’s fight is easily thebest moment inOne Piece’sEgghead Island arc.
