Faraday Future is a very ambitious electric vehicle startup founded by Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting in 2014. The company has endured years of production delays fueled by supply chain issues and financing shortages, but it has announced that deliveries of the first version of its production car, the FF 91 Futurist, are set to begin in 2023.

1. Tri-Motor Powertrain
The EV maker says the FF 91’s tri-motor powertrain can generate peak power of up to 1,050 horsepower and 1,458 lb-ft (or 1,977 Nm) of torque. Faraday Future says the FF 91 can achieve maximum torque in 50 milliseconds, which will make acceleration feel really immediate, and it also translates into a 0 to 60 mph time of approximately 2.39 seconds.
In its original benchmarking tests, the FF 91 was quicker to 60 mph than the Bentley Bentayga, Ferrari 488 GTB, and Tesla Model S P100D.
2. Big 142 kWh Battery Pack
The 142 kWh battery pack in the Future FF 91 is one of the biggest ever fitted to a passenger EV. It sits under the floor and is built directly into the frame, so it actually serves a structural role. It allows the vehicle to achieve an EPA-rated range of 381 miles on one charge.

3. No Exterior Door Handles
In order to make entry and exit an especially luxurious experience, the EV maker paid particular attention to the FF 91’s door design. The company has fitted the FF 91 with doors that open automatically through the use of powered strut actuators. They also feature electronic brakes, cameras, sensors, and special software that prevent the doors from opening and hitting parked cars or nearby objects.
A one-touch button replaces traditional door handles on the vehicle’s exterior for a seamless entry experience. The rear passenger doors are rear-hinged, resembling those of a high-class limo.
4. Huge Rear Screen
The FF 91 has a huge 27-inch retractable screen that flips down to entertain rear passengers. It is slightly smaller than the 31.3-inch screen that BMW offers inthe tech-packed i7 electric limousinebut otherwise, it’s virtually identical in concept.
The EV maker says that the FF 91’s rear passenger display is AI-capable and gives you the ability to conduct in-vehicle video conferencing while commuting.
5. Dramatic-Looking Rear Lights
Senior designer for the FF 91 project, Arash Bandeanlou, explained that “lighting is the gateway to the technology of the car.” This design approach permeates the vehicle but is most evidently reflected in its lighting signature. The FF 91 uses a unique light design, one that integrates the company’s logo in a parametric pattern.
This is most evident when looking at the full-width rear light bar. As with the rest of the FF 91’s design elements, the rear lights effortlessly blend drama and minimalism for an overall visually seamless design.
6. Dynamic LED Pattern Embedded in the Doors
Still on the topic of lighting, the EV maker says its rocker panels and door cladding utilize a hidden-until-lit system that conceals its LEDs when not in use. Faraday Future notes that side lighting will be functional, aesthetic, and communicative.
When it says communicative, it describes using LEDs on the FF 91 in an emotive way so that they can communicate with you or other road users, as well as display charge status and autonomous driving modes.
7. Unique Three-Screen Dashboard
Augmenting the FF 91’s ultra-luxury cabin design is a three-screen display setup for the front seat occupants. A 15.4-inch display, which features what the company calls the “Predictive Home Screen,” sits at the center of the FF 91’s infotainment universe.

Faraday Future seems very proud of its integration of AI technology throughout the car. The FF 91’s AI architecture includes six technology platforms and four technology systems.
These platforms and systems control the vehicle’s driving experience, mechanical systems like torque vectoring, wireless connectivity, and driver-assistance systems.
9. Mobile Connectivity and Internet
The FF 91 is equipped with three modems. It supports three carriers in the US, including AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Faraday Future says the three-modem approach is for redundancy so that if two are down, it’s possible to still rely on the third one for service.
The technology start-up says the vehicle is 10G capable, the world’s fastest in-car network speed.
10. Not An SUV, but Not a Sedan
Faraday Future’s 91 is unlike anything the market has seen. While most are quick to call it a crossover, Faraday Future is adamant that the FF 91 qualifies as an “All-Ability aiHypercar.“This is clearly the company’s attempt to highlight the fact that it’s a new kind of vehicle that combines qualities from several different types of cars.
In other words, the FF 91 promises to offer the performance of a supercar, the comfort of a luxury sedan, and the versatility and space of an SUV. The FF 91 trunk has 13.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity.
Faraday Future Is Cool but Is Trying to Accomplish a Lot
After years of hype and anticipation drawn out by supply chain issues and funding shortages, Faraday Future has yet to deliver its first production model to a buyer.
