5 Awesome AI Apps and Extensions for a Better YouTube Experience

The hot new thing in the world of technology is artificial intelligence (AI) and its many uses. There’s also a variety of things you can do with ChatGPT, and other machine-learning tech is only going to expand the scope of applications.

Already, developers are using AI to make YouTube better than ever before, through both browser extensions as well as web apps. With the power of AI, you can get instant transcriptions and summaries, “chat” with a video to ask it questions, create flash cards automatically, and use hand gestures to control playback.

1.Chat YouTube(Web): Ask Questions in Any YouTube Video Like ChatGPT

Chat YouTube “watches” any YouTube video so that you don’t have to. You can simply ask the bot questions about the video content, like in ChatGPT. Of course, it uses OpenAI to do all this on the backend.

Load any video in Chat YouTube and give the app a few minutes to process it. You’ll then start a chat window, first with a summary of what the video is about, as well as three potential questions you may ask the bot.

You aren’t limited to these potential questions, of course. We loaded ourMSI Stealth 16 Studio reviewin the app and then tried several questions, such as how the laptop handles cooling and which ports it has. Chat YouTube was able to give succinct and on-topic answers. It doesn’t simply transcribe what’s said in the video, but adds its own natural language to address the query.

2.ExpoReader(Web): Turn YouTube Videos Into Readable, Shareable Web Pages

There are times when rather than watching a long video, it might be better and easier to read the same content. ExpoReader gives you that easy option. Copy-paste any YouTube video into the website and in a few minutes, it’ll create a readable version of everything said in the video.

The “readable” page also has its own URL, which you may share with anyone else for them to read the relevant matter. It still includes the original video embedded in the page, so recipients can view it instead of reading too.

ExpoReader does the transcription and cleans up the language to make it readable using GPT. If you have your ownOpenAI API key, it’s possible to enter it in the final page to improve grammar and add punctuation to the post, making it more like an article rather than a transcript.

3.You-TLDR(Web): AI-Powered Transcript, Summary, and Chat for YouTube Videos

There are someexcellent Chrome extensions to summarize YouTube videosusing AI. If you don’t want to install anything or are on a different browser, You-TLDR does the same job as a standalone web app. Copy-paste any YouTube video link, give it a few minutes to process, and you’ll get a new window with three ways to interact with the video:

In the settings of You-TLDR, you can adjust the interval times of the transcript, and choose to autoplay the video. You can also download the full transcript or summary as a CSV, TXT, or DOC file for free.

4.Freeze(Chrome): AI-Powered Gesture Controls for YouTube Playback

Watching a video on YouTube and want to pause, mute, or skip it, but your hands aren’t free? Freeze adds simple gesture controls to the Chrome browser using a combination of your webcam and AI technology.

Once you activate Freeze on YouTube, you’ll be able to control playback of a video by making hand signs at your webcam. Make the “rock’n’roll” sign (also known as devil’s horns) to play or pause the video, make a fist to mute the audio, and flash the V for victory sign to skip to the next video. It works surprisingly smoothly, and is a cool tool if you watch a lot of YouTube while eating or a bit far away from your keyboard.

Freeze also helpsenhance Netflix in Chromeby using the same hand signs to control movies and TV shows. While the first two signs have the same function, the V for victory sign lets you skip intros.

5.Wisdolia(Chrome): Automatically Generate Flash Cards From Videos With AI

Flash cards are a time-tested way of checking how well you understood some subject or topic by quizzing yourself on it. Wisdolia uses AI to automatically generate flash cards from any YouTube video, as well as any web page or PDF that you upload.

It’s simple to use. When you’re watching any video, click the extension icon, sign in to your account, and click generate flash cards. Wisdolia will analyze the video and in a few seconds, start showing flash cards with questions. You can’t write the answers in Wisdolia, but when you’re ready, tap “Reveal answer” to check whether you were right or not.

Wisdolia allows you to save any flash card to your account to revisit it later. You can also save flash cards directly to your Anki account, one of thebest apps to learn faster and retain information. Finally, there’s an option to email the flash cards to yourself.

All AI Tools Generate Different Results

While some of these tools have overlapping applications, you should still try them all out. You’ll find that different AI tools generate different results, even if they’re using the same base like OpenAI. With trial and error, you should find your favorite.

And no matter which AI tool you like the most, don’t be dependent on it entirely. While the current AI models are excellent, they’re not infallible to error or loss in quality. You still need to use your own brains and can’t completely offload the processing to the machines.
