AT&T will basically give you a Galaxy S22 for your crappy old Samsung phone

AT&T has brought back its fan-favoriteSamsung Galaxy S22trade-in deal for Mother’s Day. That means you may trade inanyGalaxy S, Note, or Z phone (as well as plenty of other models from LG, Google, OnePlus, or Motorola) and get a “free” Galaxy S22 via $800 in bill credits. If the S22 isn’t your style, you can apply that to the Galaxy Z Flip, Z Fold3, or even a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro.

We initially highlighted this deal in our round-up of thebest Galaxy S22 deals and trade-in values, but AT&T has brought it back for Mother’s Day — that’s May 8th, if you’re now panicking. According to the terms of the deal, new and existing customers can get $800 in bill credits toward a Galaxy S22-series phone (including the S22 Ultra), a Galaxy Z Flip or Fold3, or Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, so long as they have an eligible service plan and trade in an eligible phone within 30 days of activation.

Thelist of eligible trade-in devicesincludes plenty of relatively recent models, like Pixels going back to thenow-end-of-life Pixel 3, some OnePlus phones, and iPhones back to the 7, but it’s an evenbetterdeal if you’ve got an antique Galaxy phone hanging around somewhere. AT&T will takeanyGalaxy S device back to the original model, as well as any Note. That means you can get a 128GB Galaxy S22 for “free” or a juicy discount on any of the more expensive models when trading in a phone that’s nearly worthless.

If you’ve kept one of those old dinosaurs in a drawer as backup, and it’s still capable of turning on, the carrier will gladly take it from you and give you a fiery new flagship in exchange. I booted up my own Gingerbread-powered OG Galaxy S, and even though now too old to render the Android Police website properly, it’s still capable of getting me a massive discount on one of this year’s best phones.

Previously, you could also trade in an iPhone 6 or Galaxy A32, but the list of eligible devices has changed slightly, and it may be subject to further modification.

In an earlier version of this promotion, AT&T’s claimed it took many Samsung phones in “ANY” condition, but we’ve received at least one report that an AT&T location refused a Galaxy S6 Active due to screen damage. Terms and conditions indicate that, for full credit to be received, the trade-in device must have “$35 trade-in value before device condition questions have been answered.”

Galaxy S Trade-in S22

Given AT&T has been pretty explicit elsewhere about beat-up Galaxy S-series phones still making the cut, that episode may have been a mistake at the retail level, but it’s something to be careful about. Should you end up needing to return your S22, you have 14 days to do so (30 for some FirstNet and business subscribers), and you may be charged a restocking fee of up to $55.More terms and conditions apply.

If you’ve forgotten to pick up a Mother’s Day gift, and you’ve got an old Galaxy S phone hanging around in a drawer somewhere, it might be time to bust it out and trade it in. Just keep in mind that Mom will need to be on an AT&T plan for three years, and there is an up-front cost. If you opt to cancel the plan, you’ll have to cough up the remaining balance on the installment agreement.

There’s no explicit start or end date for this promo, but you might want to move quickly — AT&T’s already changed the terms of the deal at least once.
