Summary
After a series of disappointments, theMCUis in need of a course correction, but a new update concerning the possible directors forAvengers 5andAvengers: Secret Warssounds like good news to me - though I want even more. Recent projects such asThor: Love and Thunder, Secret Invasion, andAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniahave soured some viewers' perception of the MCU, and the franchise has also been a source of controversy, particularly concerning Jonathan Majors. Marvel Studios needs a big swing to get back on track.
I was one of many who was thrilled to hear the news fromThe Hollywood Reporterthat theRusso brothers are in talks to directAvengers 5andAvengers: Secret Warsin the MCU’s Phase 6.The Russo brothers have directed some of my favorite MCU projects, includingCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, andAvengers: Endgame, so I would love to see them be welcomed back into the franchise. This could be just what the MCU needs, but I think a few more people need to return, too.

Avengers 5 No Longer Kang Dynasty, New Story Focus Reportedly In Development
A new bombshell report reveals major details about the upcoming Avengers 5, including the status of its Kang the Conqueror connection and director.
Avengers 5 & 6’s Russo Brothers Director Report Would Be Perfect For The MCU
Some have expressed concern about the Russo brothers potentially returning to the MCU, as it would be great to see new directors given the chance to show off their talents in the franchise. However, after a period of struggle and uncertainty, I think bringing the Russo brothers back forPhase 6’s epicAvengersmoviesis the perfect choice.Marvel Studios needs to earn back its once-stellar reputation, as recent controversies, poor box office performances, and behind-the-scenes drama have caused some major problems.
Most notably, the 2023 arrest, conviction, and firing of Jonathan Majors threw Kang’s future in the MCU into jeopardy. This prompted huge changes to be made toAvengers 5, originally titledThe Kang Dynasty, as director Destin Daniel Cretton and writer Jeff Loveness departed the movie.IfAvengers 5and its sequel are to match, or even beat, the massive successes ofInfinity WarandEndgame, Marvel Studios needs some certainty, and the Russo brothers' track record in the MCU has convinced me this is the right route.

Why The Russo Brothers Are Exactly What The Multiverse Saga Needs To Course Correct
While I’ve found the Russo brothers' work outside the MCU unusual, with the directing duo not really producing any major hits sinceAvengers: Endgame, their track record within the Marvel world is second-to-none.The Russo brothers' four previous MCU movies have collectively grossed over $6.7 billion at the box office, withAvengers: Endgamebecoming the highest-grossing movieof all time prior toAvatar’s2021 re-release. This huge level of success is unmatched at Marvel Studios.
2014

$714.4 million
2016

$1.153 billion
2018

$2.052 billion
2019
$2.799 billion
Considering the scope of their previous MCU projects, I think the Russo brothers' return forAvengers 5andSecret Warsmakes even more sense.Infinity WarandEndgamewere two of the MCU’s biggest events, but I’m sure this will be exceeded in Phase 6, as the upcomingAvengersmovies will explore the entire multiverse, and apparently include over60 returning MCU characters. The Russo brothers already have a strong relationship with many of these returning actors, so their return would benefit the MCU massively.
Marvel Could Cement Avengers 5 & Secret Wars’ Success By Bringing Back Infinity War & Endgame’s Entire Creative Team
The Russo brothers, of course, did a fantastic job as directors, but they would have little to direct without the incredible work of other creatives.
It’s all well and good to give all the credit to theRusso brothers for their past successes in the MCU, but this is far from the truth. In fact, to ensureAvengers 5andSecret Warsare as strong as can be,I would love to see Marvel Studios also bring back other creatives fromInfinity WarandEndgame, namely Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Markus and McFeely wrote all four of the Russo brothers' MCU movies, as well asCaptain America: The First AvengerandThor: The Dark World(which I guess was an outlier).
I thinksome of the MCU’s best writing was featured inInfinity WarandEndgame, striking the perfect balance between comedy, emotion, intensity and poignancy. The Russo brothers, of course, did a fantastic job as directors, but they would have little to direct without the incredible work of other creatives at Marvel Studios. Markus and McFeely are proven talents, so I desperately want them to reunite with the Russo brothers to cementAvengers 5andAvengers: Secret Warsas successful projects - sorry Michael Waldron.
