Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3players are likely already familiar with Shadowheart’s supposed struggle with landing Sacred Flame butone fan has discovered that it’s not her fault: The game is just bugged. While some players have likely never experienced the confusion surrounding the Cleric’s cantrip, it’s become somewhat notorious amongst the widerBaldur’s Gate 3community. For whatever reason, the tooltip available in Larian Studios' RPG always says the ability has a fairly high chance of missing the target but it turns out that Sacred Flame is actually a lot more accurate than everyone originally thought.

Posting to Reddit, userUncommonEranotes thata bug inBaldur’s Gate 3’s UI results in the incorrect calculation when it comes to working out the odds of Sacred Flame hitting.

For whatever reason, the tooltip states that Shadowheart’s Spell Save DC is based on her Dexterity modifier rather than her Spellcasting modifier, which for a Cleric is usually Wisdom. This means that because Shadowheart’s Dex is much lower than her Wis, the tooltip indicates that Sacred Flame has a greater chance of missing the target even though when it’s cast, it still uses the correct value.

How Does This Glitch Affect Baldur’s Gate 3?

Only Diehard Fans Should Notice It

While many may have been quick to assume that Shadowheart’s cantrip was just a bad choice for an early ability,it turns out the ability is still viable.Since the discovered glitch only impactsBaldur’s Gate 3’s UI, there are no mechanical repercussionsfor the tooltip using the incorrect modifier to calculate its chances of hitting. When it’s actually used, Sacred Flame is still cast using Shadowheart’s Wisdom modifier so its odds of success are much higher than the game may lead players to believe.

In practice,it’s a fairly harmless error that only the most devout fans will notice. Those who aren’t well-versed in the more granular, complicated rules ofDungeons & Dragonswill likely never see this issue and have probably been casting Sacred Flame without a second thought. Having said that, those individuals who like to deal with raw numbers and manually calculate the odds of success before casting the spell may be left puzzled by the tooltip.
