Summary
WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Transformers #10The Autobots are still reeling from their latest defeat in theEnergon Universe, asTransformers’new continuity keeps piling on the complications for Optimus Prime and co. Now, Shockwave’s plan is revealed at last, asthe Decepticon leader of Cybertron is bringing his homeworld to Earth.
Coming from the creative team of Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, Mike Spicer and Rus Wooton,Transformers#10 sees Shockwave gathering energy to open thebridge from Earth to Cybertrononce more. Shockwave came through in the previous issue and handily defeated Optimus Prime, although the Autobots were able to damage the bridge before a host of Decepticons could step through.

Shockwave manages to get the portal open once more by issue’s end, feeding enough energy into it that he is able to bring the entirety of Cybertron through. The issue ends with the Transformers’ homeworld appearing in the sky as it enters Earth’s orbit, an apocalyptic image if ever there was one.
Shockwave Brings Cybertron to Steal Earth’s Energon
Shockwave bringing Cybertron to Earth is in keeping with thecoldly logical Shockwave, as it’s the most direct way to bring Earth’s abundant resources of Energon to the Transformers’ homeworld. The theme of the Energon Universe thus far has been about wars over scarce resources, as the entire reason theTransformers crashed on Earthwas due to them running out of Energon on their homeworld. Now that they’ve discovered Earth as a rich source of Energon, the Autobots and Decepticons have gone about gathering those resources in very different ways.
Shockwave made his Energon Universe debut in last year’sVoid Rivals#4.
For Shockwave, the Earth is little more than a processing plant, something to be stripped and mined and left behind as a dead husk with little care for its inhabitants. That’s what makesthe arrival of Cybertronmore than just an intimidating sight in the sky - it also symbolizes the colonial idea of a technologically superior force using what they find for their own gains, disregarding the populations that are already there.Shockwave highlights this when he feeds humpback whales to the Decepticon’s feeder, using their life force as a power source for the bridge.
What Effect Will Cybertron Arriving in Earth Orbit Have?
Now that Cybertron and Earth are sharing each other’s orbit, fans have to wonder what effect this will have on the rest of the Energon Universe. Now thatG.I. Joe has officially formedin the new continuity to deal specifically with the threat of the Transformers, will we see that team appear in upcoming issues ofTransformersbefore theirown title launches in November? Will the cast ofVoid Rivalsfind their way to Earth to get involved with the Cybertronian conflict, now that fans know their origins have close ties toTransformerslore? Fans will have to keep reading allEnergon Universetitles to find out.
