In July 2023, Blackmagic Designreleased DaVinci Resolve 18.5, and the software is better than ever before.
Major upgrades include over 100 new features, some of which contain exciting AI tools. The company’s goal is to help users’ workflows become more streamlined and creative. With these new features, DaVinci Resolve 18.5 is surely going to enhance any video editor’s end result.

Edit Page Features and Upgrades
The Edit page got quite a few new features and upgrades that make using DaVinci Resolve worth it. Some of the new features are for the Studio version. But if you plan to only run the free version, you’re still in for an exciting time with these enhancements.
Auto-Generated Subtitles
DaVinci Resolve has innovated its software with AI in a few different ways—however, these features are for the Studio version only. Auto subtitles are one of those AI features, and the accuracy is impressive.

To find the auto subtitles in DaVinci Resolve, go toTimeline>Create Subtitles From Audio> select the language > change any other options you wish to >Create.
The software will work through all of your clips on the timeline and appropriately place the subtitles on your timeline. Incredibly efficient and precise.

Stabilization for Multiple Clips
DaVinci Resolve’s Stabilization featuregot a massive time-saving upgrade. You can now stabilize multiple clips at once instead of having to go through them individually.
Simply highlight all the clips on your timeline that you want to stabilize, then go toInspector>Stabilization> adjust your options >Stabilize. That’s it—you’re done.
Retime Curve
Retime Curve is going to be a game changer for editors who need to adjust the speed of their videos. This upgrade gives you a more hands-on experience with the keyframes instead of using Retime Controls to figure it out.
Right-click on the clip that needs a speed adjustment and selectRetime Curve. The Retime Speed box will open in the video track. Add the keyframes within the box and adjust them by moving them around until you’re happy with the result.
This is much easier and faster than using Speed Points in the Retime Controls and trying to figure out the speed.
Cut Page Features and Upgrades
TheCut page already has so many features to take advantage of, but with 18.5, it got several improvements that make it even better. These upgrades are for bothDaVinci Resolve’s free versionand the Studio version.
On the left of the timeline, there are new menus that give you access to an array of different editing options. For example, if you want to treat the Cut page more like the Edit page, you may turn offRipple. You can also add markers, display clip names, and slip/join adjacent clips.
Additionally, if you’d rather work on the Cut page, you can add your auto subtitle track here instead of the Edit page.
Separation of Video and Audio
Being able to separate video and audio in the Cut page will make using L and J cuts so much easier. It’s as simple as placing your mouse over the music track and gliding the toggle over for a split edit.
you’re able to even go to theInspector, click on theTrackicon next toAudio, and adjust the volume as needed.
