The trailer begins by establishing the Bene Gesserit sisterhood and the strong theme of power. In various voiceover bits, it is revealed that the Sisterhood experienced a series of growing enemies as they gained influence in the universe. Some of those conflicts are teased at the end of the trailer, which sees battles between members of the Sisterhood and other dueling groups. In a dramatic conclusion to the trailer, Watson declares that “sacrifices must be made.”

Can Dune: Prophecy Live Up To The Movies?

Denis Villeneuve’s Films Set A High Bar

TheDune: Prophecytrailerestablishes some of the main conflicts of the upcoming series while giving very little away in terms of the actual plot. Strong’s character, Emperor Javicco Corrino, seems poised as somewhat of a suspicious figure. While his character allegedly keeps peace within the lands he controls, his vague expressions in the trailer hint that there might be something more nefarious going on with the character. This underlying motive is especially possible given the trailer’s emphasis on the Bene Gesserit’s opposition.

Dune: Prophecywill have big shoes to fill when it arrives on Max this fall. BothDuneandDune: Part Tworeceived critical acclaim, with the latter succeeding at the box office this year. Villeneuve’s work has been praised for its world-building, performances, and visual style, setting the bar high forDune: Prophecyin many different ways.

The trailer forDune: Prophecyis a promising sign, however, that the upcoming series may come close to the qualities of the movies. Lady Jessica and the Bene Gesserit are some of the more interesting parts of the lore explored inDune: Part Two, as they become integral to Lady Jessica’s pregnancy with Paul’s future sister, Alia. Developing a greater understanding of how the Sisterhood formed could be good for the world of themovies in addition to being an interesting show, as the Bene Gesserit will continue to be relevant to futureDunemovies.
