Summary
Warning: this article contains spoilers forEvilseason 4.The supernatural Paramount+ series,Evil, has set up many narrative threads that remain unanswered, butone major question lingers regarding Kristen’s background and how it ties to Leland’s plans. As the popular series heads toward its finale, there are a lot of loose ends left for creators Robert and Michelle King to wrap up in the final few episodes. Despite theEvilstars' pleas to continue the show, there is no suggestionEvilwill be rescued, so many of these mysteries will remain unknown.
Yet, the uncertainty regarding Kristen’s (Katja Herbers) background seems to be an important one that will likely make for an exciting reveal asEvilseason 4comes to a close. One subtle clue fromEvilseason 2 might hold the key to a twist about Kristen’s past that would explain Leland Townsend’s (Michael Emerson) intricate plan that has spanned the entire show. This theory suggests thatKristen’s connection to the supernatural world is deeper than previously thought, and there may be more to the skeptical forensic psychologist.

This Genius Evil Season 4 Theory Says Sheryl Will Become The Hero
The Evil season 4 finale could see Sheryl (Christine Lahti) reclaiming power, reuniting with Kristen (Katja Herbers), and becoming the series hero.
Evil Season 2 Hints Kristen’s Father Could Have Been A Demon
Little Is Known About Kristen’s Background
Throughout the show’s run, Kristen hasn’t revealed much about her childhood or about her father. InEvilseason 1, when Kristen implores Sheryl (Christine Lahti) not to date Leland, Sheryl interprets this defiance as relating to Kristen’s father. Sheryl is adamant in this moment, stating she and Kristen’s father will never get back together. This is one of the few times that Kristen’s father is mentioned.
Similarly, Kristen doesn’t speak much about her childhood. Small details come to light, including thatwhen she was young, she had webbed feet, and the teasing she received for this caused her to begin her passion for climbing. And despite Sheryl being a frequent presence in the Bouchard home and babysitting her grandchildren, she, too, doesn’t reveal much about her daughter’s childhood.

One theory suggests that these missing pieces to Kristen’s background are becauseher father is actually a demon. InEvilseason 2, episode 2, “A Is For Angel,” after Leland breaks off his engagement with Sheryl, but later regrets this severed line of communication into Kristen’s home, he tries to win Sheryl back. Sheryl responds, saying, “Do you know how many demons I dated before you?” The throwaway line could hint that Sheryl has not only dated literal (and figurative) demons, but possibly suggests that Kristen’s father was also a demon.
Kristen’s DNA Being Demonic Explains Why Leland Stole Her Egg
Leland Uses Her DNA To Create Timothy The Antichrist
The mystery of Kristen’s lineage also ties into the unanswered question about why Leland would steal her ovum from the shady RSM Fertility clinic. Further, why would Leland use this egg cell to combine with his own sperm to create a child via surrogate that would be viewed as the antichrist? This suggestsLeland knows something about Kristen’s DNAthat is an important ingredient to creating the most demonic entity. If Kristen were an average citizen, her ovum wouldn’t be so critical, and Leland wouldn’t be so invested in her life.
How Leland will use Timothy, the purported antichrist baby made of his sperm and Kristen’s egg, in theEvilseries finale is still unclear.Timothy seems critical to the demonic plotthat’s being hatched and the threat of some big evil coming to New York that Leland is central to. Leland’s obsession with Kristen’s DNA hints at a deeper, darker secret about her origins that potentially links her to a demonic bloodline. This twist could also explain Leland’s relentless and unwavering focus on Kristen.

Kristen’s Demonic Past Would Perfectly Tie Into Evil Season 4’s Nature Vs Nurture Themes
“What Happens If The Antichrist Is Baptized?”
Evilhas explored many themes across its four seasons, but throughout the series, it has grappled with the philosophical notions of nature versus nurture, particularly in regard to the manifestation of evil. With many of the children who become possessed being traced back to the RSM Fertility clinic, and the facility’s connection to one of the demonic houses depicted in the codex, the show ponders on the origins of evil. Can evil be made in a lab? Or does it come from one’s environment? These are big questions thatEvilseems to go back and forth on.
On the evil side, it appears that their belief is that evil can, in fact, be innate. Stealing Kristen’s ovum to create the antichrist seems to indicate faith in the nature argument. However, they’re also hedging their bets and ensuringTimothy is raised in an environment where he’s surrounded by other evil and demonic individuals.

The good side seems more convinced by the nurture argument. When Sheryl pleads with David (Mike Colter) to have Timothy secretly baptized inEvilseason 4, episode 8, “How To Save A Life,” she asks him what happens if the antichrist gets baptized. He responds, saying,“no child is beyond saving.“If Kristen’s DNA is, in fact, part demon, she is further proof of the nurture theory. While she’s far from perfect, her actions are mostly good, particularly in the last few seasons, and her work with the Catholic Church helps keep people safe.
As theEvilseries finale approaches, it seems likely the show will dive deeper into these themes, as they remain central to its core premise. If Kristin is part demon, and Leland’s plan all along has been to draw the demonic side out of her, then there are some big questions the show will need to answer in its last few episodes.
