Summary
WithFuturamaseason 12 on the horizon, the trailer includes a compelling shot that perfectly sets the scene for a classic character to return to the show.Futurama’s non-human charactersare among some of the animation’s best, and the figure who could be set for a comeback fits within that category. TheFuturamaseason 12 trailer tease is only brief and is arguably quite a tenuous link to one of the show’s earliest characters, but it also could be preparing for a familar face to appear in one of the upcoming episodes.
TheFuturamaseason 12 castretains the show’s iconic voice actors, with theHulu premiere taking place on June 09, 2025. If a comeback from one character is on the cards, theFuturamaseason 12 episode titles suggest they won’t appear until near the end of the upcoming run. However, nothing is set in stone, and it could be that otherFuturamacharacters from decades past will also show up. In fact, there is some evidence to suggest that the prospective comeback in question could be accompanied by the return of a very similar character.

Futurama Season 11 Episodes Ranked
Hulu’s Futurama revival has had some really solid episodes containing great sci-fi stories, and here is every entry in season 11 so far ranked.
Guenter Could Be The Leader Of Coffee Planet In The Futurama Season 12 Trailer
One of the many planets previewed in theFuturamaseason 12 trailer is described by the voiceover as, “A world of steaming, brown coffee.” Interestingly, the caffeinated beverage brewing organically on the planet’s surface isn’t the location’s only quirk. The coffee can be seen being consumed by a group of seemingly regular primates. So,this would be a perfect opportunity to bring back Geunter, the beneficiary of Farnsworth’s Electronium Hat, first appearing inFuturamaseason 1, episode 11, “Mars University.”
Although he no longer boasts the super-intelligence the Electronium Hat was intended to impart, the damaged headgear still makes Guenter much smarter than the average monkey.

Geunter’sFuturamacomeback could see him installed as the coffee planet’s leader. Although he no longer boasts the super-intelligence the Electronium Hat was intended to impart, the damaged headgear still makes Guenter much smarter than the average monkey. So, being among his own kind will still allow him to flex what intellect the compromised invention offers him, and could be the perfect middle ground for his character.Futuramaseason 12, episode 7, “Planet Espresso,” is the most likely candidate in which the coffee world will show up - for obvious reasons.
Futurama Has Already Brought Guenter Back A Few Times
A comeback for Guenter in Futurama season 14 wouldn’t be new ground for the character
Guenter doesn’t only appear in “Mars University.“Futuramahas brought him back to the show for a handful of cameos, which proves the writers could be willing to do so again. In addition,Guenter is voiced by Tress MacNeille, who is responsible for portraying several otherFuturamacharacters. For example, MacNeille lends her voice to Mom, the Grand Midwife, Tinny Tim, and many other side characters throughout the show’s history. So, MacNeille is pretty much always around to bring Guenter back whenever the writers see fit.
Guenter has long been underutilized inFuturama, so the coffee planet from the season 12 trailer presents a great opportunity for MacNeille to voice the clever monkey once more.

MacNeille also has a working history withFuturamacreator Matt Groeningthat predates the show’s first episode. She has also voiced many characters onThe Simpsonsas early as 1990, including Agnes Skinner and Jimbo Jones. So, the veteran voice actor has a proven track record of returning to the same characters again and again. Guenter has long been underutilized inFuturama, so the coffee planet from the season 12 trailer presents a great opportunity for MacNeille to voice the clever monkey once more.
Futurama’s Coffee Planet Opens The Door For The Return Of Another Character
Dr. Banjo could also return in Futurama season 12
Weirdly, Guenter isn’t the only super-intelligent ape in the world ofFuturama. Dr. Banjo has also appeared in a handful of episodes, first being introduced while opposing the theory of evolution inFuturamaseason 6, episode 9, “A Clockwork Origin.” While Dr. Banjo has a slightly less solid reason to return to the show, his status as a clever Orangutan puts him in a similar category to Guenter, so it would make sense to also have him present during Guenter’s potentialFuturamacomeback. Their reunion would be especially salient when it’s considered the two characters have met before.
10 Best Futurama Characters Voiced By Billy West, Ranked
Billy West is one of the most important members of the Futurama cast, with many of his characters playing key roles in the story of the show.
There is some other circumstantial evidence that could support the theory thatDr. Banjo may also return in “Planet Espresso.“The character is voiced by David Herman, who also plays otherFuturamamainstays like Scruffy the Janitor. When the line “A world of steaming, brown coffee” is uttered in theFuturamaseason 12 trailer, it sounds very much like Herman’s Dr. Banjo voice. So, the naturally occurring hot beverage could have lured Dr. Banjo to the planet as part of his research into evolution, which has long been a part of hisFuturamacharacter.
