Summary
AtSan Diego Comic-Con,Hazbin Hotelcreator Vivienne Medrano has confirmed the show’s future seasons will fill in many of the assorted blanks in Alastor’s clouded personal history. Voiced by Amir Talai, the debonair, ever-smiling Alastor is amongHazbin Hotel’smost intriguing characters, said to have returned to Hell after a mysterious seven-year absence. Making himself indispensable to Erika Henningsen’s Charlie Morningstar and her plans for the show’s titular hotel,Hazbin Hotelseason 1 also revealed that Alastor is attempting to use his influence over the Princess of Hell to free his soul from the service of an as-yet-unnamed character.
Speaking withScreen Rantat this year’s San Diego Comic-Con,Medrano revealed that she has plans to reveal Alastor’s backstory, though refuses to confirm exactly when that may happen. Explaining that Alastor is one of her oldest characters, the show’s creator stated that many fans already know some of that story, thanks to various internet posts she has made over the years. However, she is excited to finally be able to officially canonize those details in future episodes. This comes after previous announcements thatHazbin Hotelhas been renewed for seasons 3 and 4. Check out her comments below:

Oh, this is a fun one because I feel like this is a safe answer because I won’t confirm whenever it happens. But it’s cool too because some of these characters I’ve had for a very long time and some of their information is out there because I was developing them. Especially Alastor, he’s the one I’ve had the longest and I’ve posted on the internet the most about. So some of the fans who deep dive into all those old posts and everything, kind of know of his backstory and a little bit.
But I’m really excited to actually get into that in the real show because I feel like, I mean, obviously Alastor’s such a fun character that everyone is excited to see more of and learn more of. So I really want to canonize that. And so I’m really excited when we get to get into his backstory, because I’m like, Yes, I know exactly what it is. It’s been with me for so long that I’m like, I can’t wait for that to be real though in a TV show. It’s so cool.
Alastor’s Backstory Will Likely Be Closely Tied To Charlie’s Own
Fans Theories Already Point To The Likely Owner Of Alastor’s Soul
Initially intended to be introduced in Medrano’s 2012 webcomicZooPhobia, Alastor was originally depicted as a black-and-red demonic deer capable of transforming into humanoid form. While this planned appearance never came together, much of Alastor’s original design would eventually come to inform his final appearance inHazbin Hotelseason 1. Similarly, much ofAlastor’s known backstoryalso predates the 2024 release of the Prime Video show, including details previously shared by Medrano suggesting that, during his mortal life,he was once a 1930s radio host and serial killer.
However, perhaps the biggest mysteries surrounding Alastor stem from his unusual seven-year absence and revelations that some unknown entity has managed to gain ownership of his soul. As many fans have already theorized, however, these are questions that will likely be answered with the proper introduction of Charlie’s mother, Lilith, inHazbin Hotelseason 2. Like Alastor,Lilith has also been notably absent from Hell for seven years, though in theHazbin Hotelseason 1 finale, it was revealed that she had somehow gained access to Heaven.
While Lilith is only briefly glimpsed in the final few moments ofHazbin Hotelseason 1, it is likely that her character will become a significant figure in season 2, and her appearance may answer a great many questions. It is highly unlikely that the timing of Alastor’s and Lilith’s respective disappearances are coincidental, and most fans are already suggesting that it is to Charlie’s mother that Alastor currently finds himself enslaved. Either way, audiences will be keen to learn all they can aboutHazbin Hotel’sresident Radio Demon.
