How to Turn Search Highlights On and Off on Windows 11

1. How to Turn Search Highlights On and Off in the Settings App
PressWin + Ito open the Settings app. Then, selectPrivacy & securityon the left side menu, and then click onSearch permissionsin the right panel.
Scroll down to theMore settingssection, and then click the toggle underShow search highlightsto turn the feature on or off.

You should no longer see search lights now.
2. Turn Search Highlights On and Off in the Local Group Policy Editor

On the left side menu, navigate toComputer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Search. Then, in the right panel, double-click theAllow search highlightspolicy to edit it.

To show search highlights, verify theNot ConfiguredorEnabledradio button is checked, and then clickOK.
To disable search highlights, check theDisabledradio button, and then clickOK.

3. Turn Search Highlights On and Off in the Registry Editor
PressWin + Rto open the Windows Run dialog box, typeregeditin the text box, and then hit theEnterkey. ClickYesin the UAC prompt to finally launch the Registry Editor.

In the address bar of the Registry Editor, copy and paste the below text, and then pressEnter:
Right-click theSearchSettingskey on the left side menu and selectNew > DWORD (32-bit) Valuein the menu that appears. Then, name the valueIsDynamicSearchBoxEnabled.
In the right panel, double-clickIsDynamicSearchBoxEnabled(the value you just created) and then enter1in theValue datatext box to turn search highlights on. Then, clickOKto apply the change.
To turn search highlights off, enter0in theValue datatext box, and then clickOK.
