Notion is an impressive productivity tool to help create notes, organize information, and store all kinds of writing. It’s robust enough to handle everything from managing your school assignments to organizing your entire life.
But as you work in Notion and create a pile of pages, notes, and even tables and databases, you might find it hard to discern between different parts of your workspace at a glance. Luckily, Notion offers a clever way to help with this: you can easily add icons or even emoji to help your pages stand out from each other.

How to Add Icons to Your Notion Pages
We’ll assume that you already have a page or set of pages you’d like to customize for the purposes of this article. If you don’t, you can easily create a new page by clicking theNew pageorAdd a pagebutton within Notion’s sidebar. If you already have a page you’d like to change, click its title to enter it.
Once inside, move your mouse cursor over the title of your page inside Notion. You should see three options appear above the title.

From those options, clickAdd icon. An emoji will be initially selected at random to appear above the title of your page, but you’ll also see a selection menu pop up.
t the top of the selection pop-up, you will find options for emojis, icons, and custom images. The selection menu will default to the “Emojis” section, offering a variety of emoji to choose from.

However, that’s not what we’re looking to add to our page right now; we want to add an icon. So, from the three options shown, selectIcons. You should see a variety of grayscale icons appear where the emoji were previously.
There are plenty of icons to choose from, and you can take some time to scroll through them if you’d like. If you already have something more specific in mind, though, you can use theFilter…search box and start typing a particular word.

When you’ve found an icon you like, click on it to add it to your page. I’ve selected the “computer” icon that looks like a desktop monitor.
Before it applies, one last popup will appear, to select the color of the icon from one of ten options. Pick a color you like—I went with the default dark gray—and the icon will appear at the top of your page, above the page title.
You may have noticed two other buttons next to the “Filter…” search bar. The first one next to the search bar is “Random”, which adds a random icon, similar to what we saw when we first opened the selection menu. You can also clickRandommultiple times to cycle through a number of the available icons.
The second button, on the right, isIcon color, which allows you to set the color of your icon before you select it. That button’s selection pane also contains a toggle to turn off the color selection popup when you click an icon.
How to Add Emoji to Your Notion Pages
To add emoji to your page, we’ll have to go into the same menu, though this time, we’ll enter into it a different way. In the Notion sidebar, you should see the title of your page. To the left of it, you’ll see an icon of a sheet of paper with a corner folded over, which represents your page.
The page may appear as blank or with extra lines on it, depending on whether you’ve written anything into the page. (It’s a helpful indicator, though it won’t matter for the purposes of this article.)
When you mouse over this page icon, you’ll see it’s actually a button which readsChange icon.
Clicking it will take you to the selection menu to add icons or emoji. It should default to the “Emojis” section, like before, but you can always click on theEmojissection name if it doesn’t.
Like with theIconsmenu, you may scroll through the options, or use theFilter…search bar to find something specific. When you find an emoji you like, click on it to add it to your page. I chose a computer monitor again.
You might have seen that there are still two buttons next to theFilter…search bar when selecting an emoji, but one of them is different.Randomadds a random emoji, like with icons before, but the second button is nowSelect skin tone.
This button allows you to change the skin tone of human-based emoji, like faces, hands, and people, between the default yellow and one of five diverse skin tones. This feature is similar to how you canchange the skin tone of your emoji in Slackoron your Zoom reactions.
How to Change and Remove Icons or Emoji From Your Pages in Notion
If you want to change the icon or emoji on your page in Notion, start by clicking on the page’s current emoji or icon, either in the sidebar next to the page title, or on the page itself above the title. This will open the selection menu again, and you can then choose a different icon or emoji as described above.
If you no longer want any emoji or icon to represent your page, then click theRemovebutton in the selection menu, above the “Random” and “Select skin tone” or “Icon color” buttons. This will delete the emoji from the top of your page, and change the icon next to the page title in the sidebar back to the page with the folded corner.
