Black Friday is a superb opportunity to buy items you were already going to purchase at full price, especially if they’re quite expensive. Many tech items fall into this category, and there are some that I especially prefer waiting until Black Friday to purchase.
I normally upgrade my laptop every 3-5 years; I could probably keep them longer, but my skill level often surpasses my current operating system within that timescale. I’ve been using MacBooks since 2018, and one of the best ways tobuy MacBooks at discounted pricesis to wait for Black Friday.
Most major electronics stores offer discounts on their main laptops for Black Friday, and you can also find excellent deals on websites like Amazon. I usually set the same budget for the device I want at full price. As a result, I have the nice bonus of being able to either save my extra money or spend it on something else that will add value to my life.
2Smartphones
Ialways pay for my phone upfrontinstead of financing it via a contract, but as you’ll know, if you’ve done this, it’s quite an expensive purchase. However, like laptops, many electronics stores will offer discounts on smartphones on Black Friday.
Depending on where you look, you may also find bundles (e.g., device accessories and advanced care plans). Even if you choose to get a smartphone contract instead of paying upfront, you’ll often find discounted subscription packages on Black Friday. For these, you can also go to an internet provider’s store and ask if they have anything in this respect.
3Cameras and Lenses
In addition to my writing, I also do professional photography work. I’m also deeply passionate about taking photos; it’s my biggest hobby by far. Besides using my smartphone camera, I also have a mirrorless Fujifilm camera. Upgrading is always pricey, which is why I prefer to do it on Black Friday.
One reason I like buying cameras on Black Friday is that you often get camera body/lens bundles. Lenses are often just as expensive as the camera itself, and if I was going to buy one anyway, it makes total sense to do so at a discounted price.
Depending on where you look, some suppliers might offer other bundles—such as cleaning kits. You should also purchase accessories, like extra batteries and camera cases, on Black Friday. Just make sure that you know the keythings to consider before buying your first camera.
4Smart Home Appliances
You’ll find numeroussmart kitchen devices that are actually useful, and the same goes for other smart home appliances. It’s almost always a better idea to get these on Black Friday as you’ll often get a significant discount.
You can look in electronics stores for deals, but some manufacturers also hold Black Friday sales directly on their website. Inspiration ideas include smart coffee makers, thermostats, and water purifiers.
5Smartwatches
While in New York City for Thanksgiving 2023, I debated whether I wanted an Apple Watch. Originally, I thought it’d be better to wait until the end of the trip and buy it when I returned home. However, I then realized that I would eventually purchase a new watch and that doing so in the US would cost less—even more so on Black Friday.
Whether you get an Apple Watch, Samsung Watch, or something else, it’s almost always cheaper to buy it on Black Friday. I particularly recommend doing this if, like me, you wish touse your Apple Watch to train better at the gym(ditto for any other brand).
I’ve bought most of my tablets on Black Friday, and I have never regretted doing so. This is especially the case now since I use an iPad, which eats a good chunk of your bank account at the best of times.
If you plan to get a tablet with a cellular plan, you should look to purchase one on Black Friday, as you can often get a discount. I also like looking for a new tablet case at the same time; my tablet is one thing I absolutely want to have protection.
I’m happy to spend money on things that make my life genuinely better, even though many of these are quite pricey. One way to lower costs is by purchasing them on Black Friday. Doing so also allows me to budget better, and I suggest that you do the same.
