Two-factor authentication (2FA) offers an extra layer of security above your standard password, and enabling it is a good idea to protect yourself.
So, if you’re not using it already, why not?

How Does 2FA Work?
When you have 2FA enabled, you’ll usually start by entering your password in a website or app. Once done, you will verify your identity via a second form of authentication.
2FA can take several forms. Some services send you a text message or email with a code; in other cases, you’ll need to scan a QR code. Other examples of 2FA include opening an app and choosing a number, while others will require you to move your finger along a slider or enter a biometric marker.

The Benefits of Using 2FA
Considering thetricks used to hack passwords, having more than one form of authentication can protect you. Even if someone bypasses your password, they’ll still have to verify who they are in another way they normally won’t have access to.
Despite this, you should still set strong passwords to stop people breaching the first line of defense where possible. There are severalonline password generatorsthat can create secure random passwords.
How to Set Up 2FA
Setting up 2FA will depend on the service you use. In my opinion, the best way to keep yourself secure is to use an authenticator app like Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator. If you use Gmail or Outlook, check out this guide onhow to secure your accounts with 2FA.

If you aren’t already using 2FA, you’re putting yourself at a bigger risk than you need to be. Multi-factor authentication makes it harder for people to hack your accounts, and the extra verification doesn’t take much longer than normal. While the steps differ from service to service, try using an authenticator app where possible.
