If you recently purchased the iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro, chances are you enjoy owning cutting-edge hardware. However, several buyers have noticed that the device is hotter than usual.
So, if you’re one of those unlucky iPhone 15 owners, you’re not alone. We’re here to inform you of this issue and what Apple is doing about it.
iPhone 15 Owners Report Overheating Issues
Since launch, there have been multiple reports ofthe iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro modelsoverheating or running hotter than usual. These reports made national news outlets, likeUSA Today, as it appears these weren’t just isolated incidents.
According to several reports, the iPhone 15 was noticeably hot to the touch, with some users reporting that it was almost too hot to hold. One test by Korean YouTuberBullsLabshowed the iPhone 15 at 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Some might not be aware, but it’s normal for an iPhone to be hotter during the first 24 hours of use. This is because more background processes are running to finish configuring your device. However, the reported temperatures are higher than usual.
Apple’s Response to iPhone 15’s Overheating Issues
According to aForbes report, Apple confirmed it’s actively working on a fix for overheating iPhones. Here’s what the company said on the matter:
We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected. The device may feel warmer during the first few days after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity.
Apple claims the problem is certain apps, like Instagram and Uber, running in the background on your device. These background apps, along with usual iPhone use, contribute to the iPhone 15 being warmer than expected.
Apple also confirmed this is not a hardware issue but rather a bug in the recently releasediOS 17 update that introduced a host of new features. This does check out, as the iPhone 14 hit similar temperatures during the previously mentioned temperature test.
Luckily, Apple stated that this heating issue won’t cause any issues to the device, meaning you won’t have to replace your iPhone 15 anytime soon. This issue will resolve itself with an upcoming iOS software update.
When Will Apple Resolve This Issue?
While Apple hasn’t confirmed when it will roll out an update to fix the overheating issue on iPhone 15 models, you can expect it to come alongside iOS 17.1 or a smaller point update, like iOS 17.0.3.
Either way, it’s worth making sure your iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro is up to date by heading toSettings > General > Software Update. Hopefully, this issue will be a thing of the past in the coming weeks.
