“You know what? The interesting part about the Jessica/Jimmy thing is it’s not until Episode 4 that they actually talk about anything. The two of them are so set on just making things work and acting like they’re OK and that nothing has happened, but all of a sudden in Episode 4 they are caught in a situation where they are by themselves, alone, and they cannot leave, and all of a sudden they’re going, ‘Well, guess we kind of have to have a talk now!'”

What This Means For NCIS Going Forward

An Emotional Episode Approaches

For season 22, the evolving dynamics between Jess and Jimmy offer a fresh emotional arc that takes a deeper look into their relationship issues. While this season begins with a high level of tension due to Jess' unexpected hostage situation, the couple’s emotional weight comes from how they navigate their unresolved problems. Jessica was previously part of Alden Parker’s D.C. team, but at the end of season 21, she accepted a new leading REACT training job at Camp Pendleton. This career change led to a big confrontation in the season 21 finale, whereJimmy lashed out at the idea of another person leaving him.

Many viewers believed that the breakup wouldn’t last, and that seems to be the trajectory now that Jess is returning to the NCIS team thanks to her promotion to the Office of Strategic Support. However, since this talk betweentheNCIScharacterswon’t happen until episode 4, viewers will have to wait at least three more episodes until it gets settled whether Jess and Jimmy’s relationship will lead to a reconciliation.
