Summary
TheX-Menand mutants will be very important for theMarvel Cinematic Universeas Kevin Feige teases their role in the franchise. After years of waiting to see the X-Men jointhe MCU movie timeline, Marvel Studios is closer than ever to finally making that happen. WhileDeadpool & Wolverinewill be a taste of that concept, anX-Men reboot movieis also in the works, since the mutants will get a bigger role in the MCU going forward.
In a new interview withVariety, Feige was asked about how central mutants will be for the MCU as they get ready to introduce the concept more fully. Without getting too specific, or addressing anything new about the MCU’sX-Menmovie, Feige made it clear that they have been laying the foundation for mutants for quite some time, sharing the following:

I wouldn’t saywhenbut we’ve already hinted over the past few years at certain people possessing what will one day be known as the mutant gene. We’ll be very excited when we tap into it.
Every Mutant Confirmed To Exist In The MCU
In a surprisingly short time, Marvel has introduced several mutants into the MCU. Here’s every mutant character confirmed to exist in Marvel’s world.
The MCU’s X-Men & Mutant Hints Explained
Even though Marvel’s X-Men movie is likely a few years out at this point, Feige is right about how the MCU has already been planting the seeds for the X-Men, and the mutant concept in general. To begin with, the continuous nods toX-Men: The Animated Serieshave not gone unnoticed, including the iconic theme song being included multiple times. Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswas also seemingly inspired by the animated show.
Then there are the mutants that have made their way into the MCU franchise already, which are setting up a bigger exploration of them in future installments.Ms. Marvelwas the first property to change the game for the MCU’s mutants, as it was revealed that Kamala Khan is a mutant, which has now been reflected in the comics, where she’s a mutant/Inhuman hybrid. Another mutant in the MCU that was introduced in recent years was Namor inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, as the Marvel movie established his mutant roots.
It would not come as a shock if it’s revealed that other established characters in the MCU are actually mutants rather than being defined as enhanced people. It also makes sense that the mutant arc becomes a bigger central point after The Multiverse Saga, once the MCU is done dealing with the concept of alternate realities. But with Feige’s newX-Mencomments, it will be an exciting thing to look forward to in the MCU in the future.
