Summary
Bo-Katan Kryzeactress Katee Sackhoff gave her iconicStar Warscharacter the perfect defense to herStar Wars: The Clone Warsarc and the criticism that comes with it. Bo-Katan has become one of the most beloved characters inStar Warsmovies and TV shows, but it wasn’t an easy road getting there. When she was introduced inThe Clone Wars, she seemed like yet another callous member ofthe terrorist group Death Watch, and while her image has been radically transformed in one ofStar Wars’best TV shows,The Mandalorian, that original story has been difficult to shake.
InThe Clone Wars, Bo-Katan was a key player in Death Watch, the Mandalorian group that ultimately helped Darth Maul take control of Mandalore. While that exchange of power was precisely how Maul was able to kill Satine, making Bo-Katan at least slightly culpable in her sister’s death, Katee Sackhoff perfectly addressed the true complexity of Bo-Katan’s arc on her podcast,The Sackhoff Show:

“This character… when people call her ‘terrorist’ or ‘an awful person’ or ‘unredeemable’ or any of these things, what I always say is that the growth of this character is so important to focus on. You can’t focus on who she is without who she was. She will always be harder on herself than anything you could possibly say about her. She is responsible for the worst tragedy she could have ever imagined, which was the death of her sister. She will forever be trying to repent for that by this life of service for her people. She will only ever do what she thinks is right for her people because of who she was. So, she would not be who she is without having gone through that entire journey, and so you have to appreciate all aspects of who she was.”
The grace that Sackhoff gives her character is beautiful and, given Bo-Katan’s fullStar Warsarc, very much deserved.

Bo-Katan Kryze’s Star Wars Timeline & History Explained: From Death Watch To Mandalore’s Next Ruler
Bo-Katan Kryze is a key Mandalorian warrior featured across several major shows, possessing a history spanning multiple eras of the Star Wars canon.
Bo-Katan Kryze
It may have taken a while for Bo-Katan’s image to be rehabilitated inStar Wars, but it certainly is now, andthat shift has been hard-earned and well-deserved. In truth, while Bo-Katan’s involvement in Death Watch and subsequent part (however accidentally) in her sister’s death is easily Bo-Katan’s worst offense inThe Clone Wars, her character just wasn’t likable at first. Her interaction with Ahsoka Tano, in which she bizarrely hits Ahsoka in the behind, is one of the strangest moments inThe Clone Wars, for example, and that would be true outside her terrorist allegiances.
Bo-Katan was a flawed character, but in light of all that she suffered—even if some of it stemmed from her own poor choices—she really has seen the error of her ways.

However, Bo-Katan of the present day couldn’t be further from that character, and that’s because she has truly had to work on herself. Bo-Katan was a flawed character, but in light of all that she suffered—even if some of it stemmed from her own poor choices—she really has seen the error of her ways. InThe Mandalorian, she proved to be a fierce fighter, strong leader, and great friend. Finally, she is truly ready to be the leader of Mandalore. In fact, Bo-Katan’s hesitancy over becoming the ruler of Mandalore, rather than entitlement, is proof of that.
Now,the upcomingTheMandalorian & Grogumoviemay see that arc realized. The Mandalorianseason 3 saw Bo-Katan quite literally seated on the Mandalorian throne—a sign of things to come. It will be thrilling ifStar Wars’upcoming movie shows Bo-Katan as a full-blown leader, solidifying the massive journey this character has gone on. Surely, such an update forBo-Katan Kryzewould mesh perfectly with Katee Sackhoff’s understanding of her character and how much she has grown inStar Wars.
