Metroid Prime 4 Will Finally Give Players More Information On Sylux
Sylux First Appeared In Metroid Prime Hunters
Nintendo’s announcement trailer forMetroid Prime 4: Beyondrevealed that Sylux will be one of the game’s antagonists, alongside a group of space pirates. Sylux - a rival bounty hunter to Samus Aran - was originally introduced as one of the six other bounty hunters inMetroid Prime Huntersfor the Nintendo DS. Very little information was revealed about Sylux in that game; players don’t even know Sylux’s species, or what they look like inside their suit of armor.
While this wouldn’t be a big deal for a minor character in theMetroidseries, players have been given reason to believe that Sylux may be more important than they first seemed. In the years since Sylux’s first appearance, they have been continually set up as a rival for Samuswith little payoff. Now, it seems likeMetroid Prime 4: Beyondwill finally be giving fans more information on this character.

Sylux Was Teased At The End Of Two Previous Metroid Games
Following their appearance inMetroid Prime Hunters,Sylux has appeared in two hidden endings for subsequentMetroidgames. The first was inMetroid Prime 3: Corruption, wherethe hidden ending showed Sylux trailing Samus in their ship, in a shot reminiscent of Boba Fett tracking theMillennium Falcon. This helped establish Sylux’s grudge against Samus and set them up as a rival that would likely show up in a future game.
The next time Sylux showed up was in another ending, this time inMetroid Prime: Federation Force. The ending of the game showed a mysterious figure breaking into the Galactic Federation’s lab and hatching a Metroid egg. Players suspected, and it was later confirmed, that Sylux was the mysterious figure from this scene.

Now, Sylux has made their return inMetroid Prime 4: Beyond, flanked by space pirates and Metroids. It seems clear from the trailer that Sylux will be playing a bigger role in this game, so players may finally get some answers about their true identity, and why they hate the Federation and Samus so much. Hopefully, Sylux proves an exciting enough antagonist to justify the 18-year wait.
