WARNING! Spoilers ahead forVoid Rivals#10
Summary
TheEnergon Universeofficially began with 2023’sVoid Rivals#1, and the Skybound imprint’s launch title is still offering further revelations intoTransformerslore. The ongoing saga of an intergalactic war continues to add to Cybertronian history in the new continuity, and one revelation in the latest issue could change everything fans know about the origins of the Energon Universe.
Void Rivalstells the story of Darak and Solila, two soldiers on opposite sides of a long-running war. The Agorrian and Zertonian races fight for scarce resources on the Sacred Ring, the remnants of two planets that collapsed around a black hole.

Void Rivals#10 picks up and runs withTransformersrevelations from previous issues, as Darak and the Autobot Springer attempt to find a way to heal the wounded Solila. After fighting off the Zertonian warrior Proximus, Springer takes the two into their lab, where he makes a shocking discovery:the jewels on Darak and Solila’s foreheads are actually Energon ports.
Transformers' New Continuity Is Connecting Earth to Cybertron Like Never Before
The Energon Universe has introduced the concept of a “bridge” between Cybertron and Earth, in a pivotal reimagining of Transformers lore.
Transformer Biology Is Changing Before Fans' Eyes
Springer gives Solilaa dose of Energonthrough the port on her forehead, not only restoring her to full health but also causing her to radiate pink energy after waking up. Thatboth races portrayed inVoid Rivalscan use Energon as a power source is a huge reveal, and Springer’s further study of their biology suggests that they have Cybertronian origins. “You’re organic,” Springer explains, “but your physiology has elements of… a… synthetic nature that appears to by Cybertronian in origin.”
Fans can learn more about the Transformers of the Energon Universe in the ongoingTransformersseries, whose first volume by Daniel Warren Johnson is available now as a trade paperback from Image Comics/Skybound.

Darak and Solila previously learned that their warring civilizations had more in common than previously thought when they discovered the only biological difference between them was the shape of their “mind’s eye,” the jewel-like formation on their foreheads. Now that readers have learned these are actually Energon ports, this ties them closer toTransformersmythology than ever. In fact, their Cybertronian physiology suggests thatAgorrians and Zertonians could even be partial Transformers themselves without even realizing it.
Void RivalsBrings Exciting New Mythology to theTransformersFranchise
One explanation for the Agorrians and Zertonians’ Cybertronian DNA could be that they are Pretenders. The Pretenders were a late addition to the original G1 line, which saw Transformers disguising themselves within a shell of synthesized flesh. Darak and Solila discovering they are actually Cybertronian robots hidden within an organic shell would be a major reveal, and certainly in keeping with theEnergon Universe’s shocking twiststhus far. However things play out, the latest issue ofVoid Rivalsconfirms that fans need to read allEnergon Universetitles in order to keep up with all the ongoingTransformersmysteries.
