Summary
A player has discovered an ingenious trick for saving everyone at the Last Light Inn during Act Two ofBaldur’s Gate 3. The Last Light Inn is the only major settlement in Act Two, and the center of its main conflict. Several recurring NPCs appear there, and players can evenrecruit Jaheira inBaldur’s Gate 3by winning her favor during their first few visits to the Last Light Inn. It’s also where, depending on whatdecisions players make around Shadowheart’s questline inBG3, the consequences are most deeply felt.
[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Shadowheart’s storyline in Baldur’s Gate 3.]

In short, much of Shadowheart’s story in the latter half of the game hinges on a single Act Two decision: should she kill the Nightsong, swear her life to Shar, and become a Dark Justiciar, or spare her, and cultivate her lingering doubts about her childhood? Although it’s not the most morally sound or intuitive route, some may decide to let Shadowheart pursue her passions -but that comes at the cost of the entire population of the Last Light Inn. However, clever players have found a workaround that allows for the best of both worlds.

Players Can Literally Evacuate The Last Light Inn
Saving The Tieflings In BG3
As shared in a Reddit thread bytheshouldershrugger,it’s possible to save everyone at the Last Light Inn by physically picking them up and moving them somewhere else. The shadow curse is the reason everyone at the Last Light Inn dies when Shadowheart kills the Nightsong: Isobel’s protective magic falters, and the harmful magic that permeates the rest of the region begins to seep in. So, in theory, taking everyone at the Last Light Inn to a place that’s naturally protected from the shadow curse should allow them to survive without Isobel. And while the refugees at Last Light don’t have access to such a place, the player does.
In this case, theshouldershrugger took everyone at Last Light to the Gauntlet of Shar, a huge dungeon located just across the Shadow-Cursed Lands, and home to some of thehardest puzzles inBaldur’s Gate 3. The party has to unlock it themselves to get in, but once they do, they can theoretically just transport all the refugees inside, then proceed with turning Shadowheart into a Dark Justiciar as normal.

The original Reddit post outlines a pretty clear procedurefor moving everyone from Last Light to the Gauntlet of Shar. This exact sequence won’t be possible for all players' builds, but there are several alternatives that work just as well. First, the player will have to unlock the fast travel points at both the Last Light Inn and the Gauntlet of Shar. Then, they’ll need to knock out everyone at the Last Light Inn using non-lethal combat.
Not all moves are non-lethal!Even with non-lethal damage on, it’s possible to accidentally kill an NPC by casting a spell at them. As a result, it’s best to stick to ranged and melee weapon attacks when attempting to knock foes out.

Theshouldershrugger, playing as the Dark Urge, was able simply to use their Improvised Weapon feature to pick each NPC up, fast travel to the Gauntlet of Shar, and set them down. However, even those who don’t have this ability may be able to achieve a similar effect with the Throw action. With that, they can return to the Shadowfell, kill the Nightsong, turn Shadowheart into a Dark Justiciar, and move on.This strategy can also be used to keep everyone at the Last Light Inn alive during Marcus' invasion, but it will make the ensuing battle more difficult, as the party will have fewer allies on their side.

Evacuating The Last Light Inn Keeps (Most) Of The Side Quests Available
How Evacuated NPCs Behave In Act Three Of BG3
This is a handy enough workaround to keep everyone at the Last Light Inn alive - but it’s not immediately clear what it’ll do to their quests from that point forward. Thankfully, theshouldershruggerreturned with a comment after playing through part of Act Three, explaining how the Last Light evacuation appears to have impacted all the NPC questlines involved. And as it turns out, most of them are entirely intact. First,Jaheira was still totally recruitable, and stuck with the party through Act Three.
Next, the Ironhand Gnomes - Barcus Wroot and friends - can still be foundin the cave near the Sword Coast Couriers, so long as Wulbren was duly rescued during the Moonrise Towers sequence. Players can continue that questline, going on to disable the Steel Watch, free the Gondians at the Iron Throne and the Foundry, and ultimately, summon them as allies in the final battle.Cerys will appaer at the refugee camp, and though she doesn’t have a quest of her own in Act Three, she can be spoken to, and updated on Zevlor if the party found him at the Mind Flayer Colony.

Dammon will appear at the forge in Baldur’s Gate as usual, and can continue to upgrade Karlach’s heart if the player is carrying enough Infernal Iron. He’ll also have his full shop inventory, so players can still buy some of thebest armor inBaldur’s Gate 3at his forge. In a similar vein,Rolan will appear behind the counter of Sorcerous Sundries. Players can purchase his full inventory of magic items, and may participate in the fight agaist Lorroakan if the player chooses to pursue it.
Late-Game Baldur’s Gate 3 Spell Is The Key To Some Of The Game’s Best Summons
Having the right summons can turn the tides of battle in Baldur’s Gate 3, and one spell in particular is capable of making a huge difference.
The only problem is thatAlfira didn’t make it to the Last Light Inn in theshouldershrugger’s playthrough, so it’s unknown exactly how she behaves when this workaround is used. Since they’re playing as the Dark Urge, and Alfira is traditionally the first victim of that Origin character’s storyline, it’s easy to guess what happened to her. That said, Lakrissa did make it out of Act Two, and can be found at the Elfsong Tavern as per usual, so it’s likely that the same would hold true for Alfira. Only player experimentation can confirm or deny this, though.

So, while evacuating the Last Light Inn is possible, it requires very specific conditions, and is definitely subject to a little uncertainty. However, it can be a useful trick for players who want to have their Dark Justiciar cake and eat it, too, allowing them to explore two storylines that are normally incongruous inBaldur’s Gate 3.
