Summary
Inside the world ofOne Piece,Vegapunkis perhaps the most intelligent being alive. And yet, even a genius like him could not predict the future, and Luffy having the powers of Nika was an especially consequential miscalculation that inadvertently ended up throwing a wrench in Vegapunk’s plan to defy the World Government.
The scientist is extremely knowledgeable about almost all topics, being among the few individuals who know about the mysterious events of the Void Century. It is thanks to Vegapunk that the world of the series has advanced so much technologically, with him even managing to recreate equipment from the superior Ancient Kingdom.

Despite his enormous intellect, Vegapunk is still a human, meaning that he is not able to prevent external factors from compromising his theories or plans. Proof of this is the sudden awakening ofthe mysterious Iron Giant who dwelled on Egghead Island. Likely, Vegapunk never expected this machine to begin moving, which ultimately caused the failure of one of his most important schemes.
One Piece’s Devil Fruits Secretly Contain a HUGE Hint About the Void Century
One Piece’s devil fruits may be the key to finally deciphering the truth about the Void Century, the Ancient Kingdom, and even the meaning of D.
Luffy’s Gear 5 Activating the Iron Giant Was Something Vegapunk Never Foresaw
He Hid the Transponder Snail in the Machine To Prevent It From Being Found
Tired of the World Government hidingthe awful truth that the world ofOne Piecewould become flooded, Vegapunk created a video to reveal this fact to the public. When the message began playing in chapter #1113, the Five Elders began looking everywhere on Egghead Island to prevent this recording from being seen by civilians. Vegapunk, aware of the need for this message to be spread worldwide, seeminglyhid the broadcasting transponder snail in the Iron Giant. Seeing as this mechanical being had been inactive for centuries, it was unlikely that anyone would have thought of looking inside it.
What Vegapunk did not account for, wasthe Iron Giant suddenly awakening after hearing the Drums of Liberationthat accompanyLuffy’s Gear 5 transformation. It is confirmed that the man did not know about this side effect of the Straw Hat Captain’s latest form as he said so himself after witnessing it. If the Iron Giant had remained inactive, it is unlikely that York or the Five Elders would have ever considered it a hiding location for the transponder snail. In the end, it was due to this miscalculation that Vegapunk’s final message was not completed.

Vegapunk’s Last Message Could Have Been a Massive Advantage for the Heroes
The Secret Behind the Will of D Could Have Changed the Course of the Fight Against the World Government
During the ending moments of chapter #1117, Vegapunk’s message began talking aboutthe secret behind the Will of D. He mentioned a secret hiding among those with a D in their name, like the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy. Just before this enigma could be resolved, one of the Five Elders knocked the Iron Giant to the sea. If not for this interruption, those who possess the Will of D would have obtained knowledge that the World Government desperately wants to keep hidden. This would have given them an advantage in the inevitable battle between the factions.
In chapters #763 and #764, Donquixote Rossinante revealed to Trafalgar D. Law thatthe members of the D. Family used to be considered the enemies of the Celestial Dragons. The reason behind this could be directly linked with the secret Vegapunk was prepared to share in his recording. If the scientist’s transmission had not been stopped, most enemies of the World Government would have a much better chance at opposing the tyrannical rulers of the world. Still, seeing as there was no way for Vegapunk to account for Luffy’s power, there is no one who can be blamed for the events of chapter #1117.

The Will of D will likely remain one ofOne Piece’s biggest mysteries for many more chapters. While it is highly likely thatVegapunk’s message will be completed at some point in the future, it will almost certainly not be soon, and it’s all because not even the genius scientist could predict the interaction between Luffy’s Nika powers and the Iron Giant.
One Piece
Created by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is a multimedia franchise that began as a manga series and follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as led by Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy, an enthusiastic pirate with a thirst for adventure, is afflicted by a mysterious curse that gives him various powers he uses to protect himself and his friends. The manga eventually gave way to the anime series, with the two being some of history’s longest-running anime and manga series. Along with over fifty video games made over the years, the series entered the live-action world with Netflix’s 2023 adaptation.
