What Happened to MoneyGram?

In late September 2024, reports emerged thatMoneyGram had suffered a significant data breach. Given MoneyGram has more than 150 million users around the world and a significant number in the US, this breach affected a significant number of people.

The attack between September 20 and 22, 2024, caused a five-day outage at the service. A confidential source toldBleeping Computerthat the company was breached through a social engineering attack, and that there was no ransomware at play.

The data breached included names, email addresses, postal addresses, social security numbers, government IDs, and more.
