Summary
Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Scarlet Witch #2!Quicksilverundeniably had the most disappointing death scene in theMCU, but it was absolutely necessary to protect the multiverse. While at the time, it was considered a disappointing way to establish his character on screen, a new reveal regarding the twins' connection shows that his death was for the best.
Scarlet Witch#2 – by Steve Orlando and Jacopo Camagni – brings Scarlet Witch face-to-face with the Queen of Nevers in the Land of the Dead, who explains that she harnesses power through nexus beings throughout the multiverse, including Wanda. However, unlike most nexi,Scarlet Witch is special because she’s a twin. The two share a connection which ultimately sets her up to become the Ultimate Nexus the longer she stays with Quicksilver.

This title means that Scarlet Witch is capable of developing a power that makes her “able to touch all realities.” However, given her path in the MCU, this means her brother’s death was the right call.
After his introduction inAvengers: Age of Ultron, fans of the speedster and his mystical sister, Scarlet Witch, were understandably excited to see the iconic duo’s future in the MCU. However, those dreams were cut short whenQuicksilver was abruptly killed off at the end of the film.

Quicksilver’s MCU Death Prevented His Sister From Becoming The Ultimate Villain

The movie version of Scarlet Witch would have been able to use her brother as a battery to power her ability as the Ultimate Nexus, using her power to tear the MCU – and perhaps even the rest of the Marvel Multiverse – to shreds.
Had Quicksilver survived his sacrifice inAge of Ultron, his tie to Scarlet Witchwould have ultimately given her ties to the multiverse that Kang the Conqueror could only dream of. The ability to touch multiple realities at once is a powerful tool to have, and while Scarlet Witch has proven herself to be a well-regarded hero, she’s tapped into the dark side enough times to make the ability something her MCU counterpart should never have. While she would still have Quicksilver to keep her company, she would still have lost Vision and her children duringWandaVision, triggering her villain arc.

If MCU Quicksilver had lived, Wanda would have no need for America Chavez inMultiverse of Madness. Thus, Doctor Strange would have no way of combating Wanda as she reached through the Multiverse to take her children for herself, while also causing chaos in her wake to protect them. The movie version of Scarlet Witch would have been able to use her brother as a battery to power her ability as the Ultimate Nexus, using her power to tear the MCU – and perhaps even therest of the Marvel Multiverse– to shreds.
The MCU Version Of Scarlet Witch Would’ve Abused Her Ultimate Nexus Power
Quicksilver’s Death Prevented A Worse Fall For Wanda
Despite how disappointing his death was for many fans, Quicksilver exiting the MCU inAge of Ultronwas ultimately for the best.
What’s interesting about this new secret to Scarlet Witch’s connection to the multiverse is howthe responsibility behind the Ultimate Nexus isn’t exactly safe in any variant’s hands.Scarlet Witch has had constant shifts to the dark side throughout her. One of her most notorious roles was inHouse of Mwhen she wiped out various heroes with the now iconic phrase"No More Mutants.“Plus, withScarlet Witch#2ending with her being possessed by the Lovecraftian villain Mor-I-Dun, she’s not completely disconnected from the dark side of herself.

In other words, it is perhaps dangerous for Wanda to be the Ultimate Nexus in any reality. Overall, despite how disappointing his death was for many fans, Quicksilver exiting the MCU inAge of Ultronwas ultimately for the best. Scarlet Witch’s powers as the Ultimate Nexus would have madeMultiverse of Madnessa total nightmare scenario if he survivedAge of Ultron. Of course, this doesn’t mean that the entire Marvel Universe is safe asQuicksilver’ssister poses a threat to the entire multiverse whether she’s in theMCUor not.
