The Boys Season 5: Confirmation, Cast, Story & Everything We Know About The Final Season
The irreverent superhero series The Boys is returning for its fifth season on Amazon Prime Video, but The Boys season 5 is also the last.
The Boys Season 5 Can’t Avoid A Fight Between Starlight & Billy Butcher
Butcher and Starlight can finally have their long-awaited showdown
Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher is the leader ofThe Boys, a group that specializes in taking down Supes. Butcher’s hatred for superheroes may stem from what Homelander did to his wife, but it now permeates his views of every other character with Compound V in their veins. Therefore,it’s easy to forget that Starlight has been one of Butcher’s allies for a while now, albeit an uneasy one. With Butcher surrendering to the darkness within at the end ofThe Boysseason 4, it may be up to Starlight to stop his murderous rampage while trying to reach Homelander.
Kimiko is captured at the end ofThe Boysseason 4, and so may not be able to help Annie in felling Butcher.

Stopping Homelander is at the top of the list of priorities for both Starlight and Butcher, but the difference is that the latter doesn’t care who he has to kill to end the life of his nemesis. This terrifying ability and willingness to kill anyone in his path is demonstrated when he rips Victoria Neuman in half with his V-powered tumorous tentacles when she seeks refuge with Butcher’s team. So, when Starlight inevitably tries to stop Butcher’s indiscriminate killing spree, she very much stands the chance of suffering a similarly gory fate to that of Neuman.
Hughie Will Need To Make A Difficult Decision In The Boys Season 5
Jack Quaid’s The Boys character has a strong bond with both characters
Both Starlight and Butcher are both incredibly important people to Hughie. The former is his beloved, and the latter has long been Hughie’s twisted father/uncle figure who gave Hughie a purpose in the wake of Robin’s death inThe Boysseason 1. When Starlight and Butcher face off inThe Boysseason 5,Hughie will need to quickly choose a side, as it’s highly likely that only one of the Supes will come out from the encounter alive. Starlight and Butcher have long had an open distaste for the other, so neither will pull their punches.
Hughie is one of the show’s moral compasses, so having him defect and join Butcher just simply isn’t in his character.

In all likelihood, Hughie will side with Starlight, asButcher is shaping up to be one ofThe Boysseason 5’s biggest villains. Hughie is one of the show’s moral compasses, so having him defect and join Butcher just simply isn’t in his character. This is especially true when Butcher’s opponent is someone so special to Hughie. That being said, the loss of Hughie’s father inThe Boysseason 4 meansButcher’s status as Hughie’s remaining surrogate dad will make his decision less easy. Either way, the choice will be a huge focal point in the coming season’s story.
Starlight’s Newest Power Gives Her An Edge Over Butcher
Annie’s ability to fly makes her more likely to survive the encounter
Starlight’s powers inThe Boyshave always been pretty ambiguous. However, the season 4 finale gives concrete evidence of one of her newest abilities - the power of flight. With her powers ailing throughoutThe Boysseason 4, it’s been even more difficult than ever to work out exactly what Starlight is capable of.It’s long been clear that she has super-strength like so many other Supes, but now it’s confirmed that she’s mastered her ability to take to the sky. Against an enemy as powerful as Butcher, this could be a huge advantage.
The Real Reason Butcher Goes Bad In The Boys Season 4’s Ending
Butcher’s dark turn in The Boys season 4 finale has been building all season long, and it has more to do than just Kessler’s influence.
So far, Butcher’s new abilities have only been demonstrated on Victoria Neuman, although the display was truly devastating. Once he had covered Neuman’s eyes, she was completely defenseless and unable to pop her opponent’s head. Thankfully,Starlight’s new power of flight makes her much more agileand elusive than the unfortunate Neuman, meaning she will be much tougher for Butcher to bring down. Paired with her other returning abilities, she’s one of the Supes best suited to the task inThe Boysseason 5.
