Marvel Studios has just made the post-credits scene ofEternalseven more confusing by delaying the upcomingBladereboot yet again, removing it completely from the release schedule of theMCU. The production ofMarvel Studios’Blademovie, which is set to star Mahershala Ali as the titular Daywalker, has been very tumultuous. Several directors and writers have been attached toBlade, and the movie’s release date has been pushed back a number of times, with the most recent update leaving future of the project even more uncertain.

In October 2024,Deadlinereported thatBladehas been completely removedfrom Marvel Studios' upcoming slate, stripped of its June 10, 2025, release date. Despite this,Mahershala Ali is said to be pleased with the current direction ofBlade, and horror icon Mia Goth is still connected to the project, expected to bring Marvel Comics' Lilith into live-action for the first time ever. While the slowed-down production ofBlademay ultimately be a good sign for the movie, it makesEternals’post-credits sceneeven more confusing and awkward.

Blade’s Continual MCU Movie Delays Make Eternals' Post-Credits Scene More Awkward

Blade Made His MCU Debut In Eternals

The fact thatBladehas now been indefinitely delayed means that it will be even longer, an unknown amount of time, before Mahershala Ali returns to the MCU to explain his official debut inEternals’post-credits scene. Blade made a voice cameo pondering whetherKit Harington’s Dane Whitmanwas ready to wield the Ebony Blade, a mysterious weapon that had been passed down through his family for generations.Dane Whitman and Blade’s connection was initially expected to be explored in theBladereboot, but this is very uncertain now.

Blade’s Development Hell Timeline Fully Explained

Amid a slew of writer and director changes, Blade’s entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring Mahershala Ali continues to be delayed.

Since 2021’sEternalswas released,Bladehas been delayed four times, pushed back from its original June 05, 2025, release date to June 30, 2025, then to July 05, 2025, and then to July 08, 2025, before being removed from the schedule completely. Blade’s Most Recent Delay Sets A Worrying Note For Its Release

Blade No Longer Has A Release Date

WhileBladehas already been delayedseveral times, its most recent push-back could make audiences even more worried about the future of the much-anticipated MCU reboot.Bladeno longer has a scheduled release date. Prior to the most recent update,Bladewas set to be released as part of the MCU’s Phase 6 in November 2025, joiningCaptain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*andThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsin what promised to be a fantastic year for Marvel Studios.

This release date meant that the wait betweenEternalsandBladewould have been slightly more bearable, but now it seems this will be even more extended. It’s less clear than ever when the mystery ofDane Whitman’s family history, his possible evolution into the Black Knight and an explanation regarding the Ebony Blade will be featured in the MCU.Bladepresented the perfect opportunity for this to happen, given Mahershala Ali’s debut inEternals’post-credits scene, but there seems to be nothing but confusion now.

Why MCU’s Blade Movie Needs To Release Sooner Rather Than Later

Deadpool & Wolverine Made Blade’s MCU Movie Even More Important

The longer Marvel Studios leaves before releasingBlade, the more awkwardEternals’post-credits scene becomes.Dane Whitman runs the risk of being completely forgotten in the MCU, with no sign of him yet returning after hisEternalsdebut. Beyond this, Wesley Snipes' Blade recently joked about there being"only one Blade"in 2024’sDeadpool & Wolverine, and this joke looks more and more like reality the longer it takes for theBladereboot to materialize. Snipes' Daywalker needs to be proven wrong, so it would be great for Mahershala Ali to appear sooner rather than later.
