Summary

Starfield’s June 2024 update introduced many changes to the game, including a briefTrackers Alliance missionto officially join the bounty hunting organization. While most of the changes are major improvements, the update also introduced its own host of bugs. One of the items affected by these technical issues is the Shipbreaker’s Cutter, a lightweight weapon with a unique skin.

A player’s inventory can be constantly cluttered by the weapons, armor, resources, and aid items scattered throughout the Settled Systems. Because of this, it can be easy to mis-click and accidentally sell a weapon which is actively used. Luckily, the game has a built-in safety feature whereStarfield’s vendorswill allow sold items to be repurchased for the sale price. Unfortunately, buyback does not apply to the Shipbreaker’s Cutter.

“An Instant Classic”: Starfield Review

Starfield has plenty of captivating tales and dynamic mechanics that make it an epic science fiction adventure - and an instant classic.

Shipbreaker’s Cutter Cannot Be Bought Back If Sold To A Starfield Vendor

A Bug Keeps The New Cutter From Returning To A Player’s Inventory

The Shipbreaker’s Cutter is currently subject to a bug whereitcannot be repurchased if it is sold. The weapon will appear in the vendor’s inventory in the Buyback menu, but buying it will prove ineffective. Instead, the game will still detract credits from the player without adding the Shipbreaker’s Cutter to the player’s inventory.

Until Bethesda is able to fix this issue, there are a few ways to lower the risk of accidentally selling this unique weapon. While the player could normally rename the weapon to put it at the bottom of the weapon list to avoid selling it,it is also subject to a bug where it cannot be renamed. One alternative method is to favorite the item. While this will not prevent it from being sold outright, it will add a visual indicator as a warning. There is also the safer, but more tedious, option of quicksaving before selling weapons.

Why Starfield’s Shipbreaker’s Cutter Is So Useful

Almost Weightless

AStarfieldplayer is very unlikely to use the Cutter as a main weapon due to its low damage and lack of modifications. Instead, it serves as a utility tool formining valuable resources, clearing certain obstacles in the world, and opening alternative paths through a dungeon. This versatility means that the player is likely to carry a Cutter at all times. Unfortunately, the mining laser is also fairly heavy with a mass of 4.The Shipbreaker’s Cutter has the Titanium trait, which makes it weigh 95% less for a mass of 0.2- about the weight of a Chunks cake.

To find the Shipbreaker’s Cutter, the player will need to complete the “Bounty: The Starjacker” mission. This mission can be started after being contacted by a Trackers Alliance agent. At the end of the mission’s dungeon is a chest which contains the tool along with several other unique items added by the update.Starfield’s quality of life is certainly improved by having this item, so it is recommended to get it as early as possible.

Starfield

Bethesda Game Studios presents Starfield - the first original IP from the studio in twenty-five-plus years. Set in the year 2310, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective are observing a shaky truce after a war set 20 years prior. The player will customize their character as a member of a space exploration team called Constellation while navigating The Settled Systems and the conflicts between the warring factions. According to Bethesda, players can explore over 100 systems and 1000 planets to find resources and build their ships, living out their own sci-fi journeys.
