Ever found your YouTube volume changing or going haywire between videos? Well, YouTube has finally introduced a new feature to fix this problem: Stable Volume.

Stable Volume is a YouTube feature added to ensure audio consistency across the platform. If you’ve recently experienced issues with audio output on YouTube from your favorite channels, this might be the reason.

What Is Stable Volume on YouTube?

Stable Volume balances the Volume across YouTube videos to ensure a consistent sound. The main benefit of using Stable Volume is that it reduces sound variations, ensuring consistent video audio volume.

Stable Volume continuously adjusts volume (by applying a normalization filter) in a video, ensuring a balanced sound output by either boosting the lower parts or lowering the loud parts to a perfect middle ground. However, this might not be the experience that you want all the time.

In an attempt to even out the volume across a video, Stable Volume can distort the audio’s quality. YouTube knows this, and that’s why Stable Volume is not available for music videos (at the current time—this may change in the future).

Another instance when you don’t need Stable Volume is on certain types of videos, such as gaming streams or TV show and movie trailers.

If you’d like to hear the video’s sound in all of its glory as the creator intended, you should turn Stable Volume off.

How to Disable YouTube’s Stable Volume Feature

YouTube’s Stable Volume feature is available on the web and mobile apps, and I’ll show you how to disable it on both platforms.

If you’re using YouTube’s Android or iOS app, follow these steps:

At the bottom, a “Stable volume is off” message will pop up, confirming the change is saved.

you’re able to achieve the same on YouTube via the web by following these steps:

With Stable Volume off, all the future videos you play on YouTube will follow your preference.

Stable Volume can be good or bad, depending on your needs. It’s a savior if you’re irritated by the sound variations while watching YouTube videos, but if you love to hear the audio just as the producer wanted, you should turn it off.
