The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princessis known as one of the darkest games in the franchise, andthis fantastic duo cosplay will remind players why its story can be incredibly bleak. While it’s widely accepted that the over-archingLegend of Zeldatimeline is difficult to follow, with certain games counting toward canon contrasted to others that have no place in the official story,Twilight Princesshas a shocking amount of continuity. The most tragic is undoubtedly the Hero’s Shade, who represents a version of Link fromOcarina of Time.

The design of both characters is fantastic but special mention must be made for the Hero’s Shade’s armor and mask, which are shockingly realistic, in no small part due to some excellent photography bysenks.jpg. The pose is also evocative asit illustrates the tragic connection between Link and the Shade: They are the same.
Who Is The Hero’s Shade?
A Life Of Tragedy
Ever sinceTwilight Princesswasfirst released for the GameCube in 2006, theLegend of Zeldacommunity has actively debated the nature of the Hero’s Shade, the enigmatic specter who appears to Link and teaches him new combat techniques. Given the way the Shade refers to Link, moves in combat, and the abilities he grants the protagonist, most believe the ghostly figure to be the spirit ofLinkfrom theOcarina of Time/Majora’s Masktimeline. Nintendo confirmed thetheory to be true inHyrule Historia.
I Still Desperately Want Zelda: Twilight Princess On Switch For One Obscure Reason
I’m still, perhaps foolishly, holding out hope that Twilight Princess will come to the Nintendo Switch, because I’ve only ever played it backwards.
Even without the official word from the developer, the connection between the characters makes sense. The Hero’s Shade, also known as The Hero’s Spirit, explains thatit wishes to pass on the “lessons of his life to those who came after him,” somethingOcarina’s Link was unable to do after he was sent back in time. Some even believe the Shade’s existence to mean that Link died in the Lost Woods, becoming a Stalfos, which would explain the spirit’s undead appearance.

In a franchise with many tragic scenes of love and loss, the fate ofOcarina’s Link is considered by the community to be one ofthe series' saddest resolutions. Knowing that he was finally able to teach his knowledge to his ancestor inThe Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princessat least finally allows the Hero to rest. Fortunately for everyone else, the fantastic story moment will forever be immortalized by the cosplaying talents of DifficultChannel6097 and pickledsconescos.
