After discovering that Pearlman made $10 million while The Backstreet Boys had only been paid $300,000 since 1993 despite being on tour for two years, the boy band decided to sue him for fraud and misrepresentation (viaABC News). In 1999, NSYNC also sued Pearlman for fraud and misrepresentation and fired him as their manager.
