Summary

I’m hoping for big things fromStar Trekat San Diego Comic-Con 2024.Star Trekreturns to Hall H with a 90-minute Star Trek Universe panel on Saturday, July 27th. Star Trek on Paramount+ is presenting three series;Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and the newestStar Trekshow,Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, as well asStar Trek: Section 31, the first made-for-streamingStar Trekmovie on Paramount+.Star Trek: Prodigyis also receiving their own dedicated panel on Sunday, July 28th.

A year ago,Star Trekactors and writers were on strike, as was the entire entertainment industry. Star Trek on Paramount+ held a Hall H presentation hosted by Scott Mantz anyway, where they showed theStar Trek: Strange New Worldscrossoverepisode withStar Trek: Lower Decks. This year,Star Trekis back in full swing amid some major upheavals, like the conclusion ofStar Trek: Discovery, as well as the announcement that Star Trek: Lower Decksis also ending. YetStar Trekat San Diego Comic-Con is also rife with exciting potential about the next phase of the franchise’s future. Here’s what I’m excited to learn about fromStar Trekat Comic-Con.

Captain Christopher Pike and Emperor Philippa Georgiou are Star Trek’s future.

I have zero expectation that anything regardingStar Trek: Legacy, Star Trek: Picardseason 3’s continuation, will be announced or that the subject will even be broached at Comic-Con.

I’m Excited About What’s Next For Star Trek

Star Trek: Discovery is over, and soon Lower Decks will end, but even with fewer shows, there is still lots of exciting stuff ahead for Star Trek.

6Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Will we get a release date and Strange New Worlds season 3 footage?

Star Trek: Strange New Worldswill be a huge part of Paramount+’s Star Trek Universe panel on Saturday, July 7th. The announced special guests fromStrange New Worldsare Anson Mount (Captain Christopher Pike), Rebecca Romijn (Number One), and Ethan Peck (Lt. Spock), alongside executive producers Alex Kurtzman, and co-showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers.

I’m hoping for Paramount+ to announce the release date forStar Trek: Strange New Worldsseason 3, which wrapped filming in May. AStrange New Worldsseason 3 trailer or any footage would be awesome to whet the appetite for the long-awaited new season. It would also be great to get some hints about what “big swings” are in store forStrange New Worldsseason 3; like perhaps more info on the “Hollywood murder mystery” episode directed by Jonathan Frakes.

Michelle Yeoh’s Georgiou talks to a mysterious figure with a metal mohawk

Star Trek: Strange New Worldsis renewed for season 4, which begins filming in Toronto in the spring of 2025.

5Star Trek: Lower Decks

It’s Lower Decks' final season, unfortunately.

Star Trek: Lower Deckswill be part of the Star Trek Universe Hall H panel. The USS Cerritos is beaming inLower Deckscast membersJack Quaid (Lt. Brad Boimler), Tawny Newsome (Lt. Beckett Mariner), Noël Wells (Lt. D’Vana Tendi), and Jerry O’Connell (Commander Jack Ransom), along with creator and executive producer Mike McMahan and executive producer Alex Kurtzman.

It will be bittersweet forStar Trek: Lower Deckssince season 5 is also their final season. ButI expect to learn the fall release date forStar Trek: Lower Decksseason 5, and I’m sure we’ll see a trailer for the final season. Key art and hints aboutStar Trek: Lower Decksseason 5are also likely. Tawny, Jack, Noël, Jerry, and Mike McMahan are also genuinely funny in person, and theLower Deckssection of the Star Trek Universe panel is bound to be hilarious like the show itself.

Paramount+ will feature a Star Trek: The Menagerie booth at the San Diego Comic-Con convention floor. Fans can check out alien specimens fromStar Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and more. Fans can also join the menagerie in an immersive photo op.

4Star Trek: Section 31

It’s time to raise the curtain on Section 31

Star Trek: Section 31will get the spotlight at Comic-Con’s Star Trek Universe Hall H panel.Section 31’s cast membersOmari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, and Kacey Rohl, along with executive producer Alex Kurtzman and director Olatunde Osunsanmi, will be part of the panel. While it’s disappointing Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh isn’t slated to appear, maybe she will deliver a video greeting.

I Have A Star Trek Theory About What Michelle Yeoh Is Really Doing In Section 31

The characters' identities in Star Trek: Section 31 are top secret, but Rachel Garrett may be a clue to Emperor Georgiou’s plan in the Star Trek movie

I hope some of the mysteries aboutStar Trek: Section 31will be answered, starting with the premiere date for the movie on Paramount+.I also hope to seeStar Trek: Section 31’s trailer. It would also be great to learn who Omari Hardwick and Sam Richardson are playing, since the only character known besides Michelle Yeoh as Emperor Philippa Georgiou is Rachel Garrett, who is Kacey Rohl’s character.

Holly Hunter smiling in front of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Paramount+ is also bringing back The Lodge at San Diego Comic-Con. Along with activations forGhosts, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, andCriminal Minds: Evolution, fans can create their ownStar TrekT-shirt and swag on aStar Trekstarship.

3Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

School is finally in session

Fans will finally get more information about the nextStar Trekseries,Star Trek: Starfleet Academy,at Comic-Con. Opening the doors toStarfleet Academyare executive producers and co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau. It’s too bad series lead Holly Hunter, who plays Starfleet Academy’s Chancellor, and Paul Giamatti, who plays the show’s recurring main villain. won’t be at the Star Trek Universe panel, however.

Paramount+ and CBS Studios already announced the first three new cast members, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, and George Hawkins, but I hopeStar Trek: Starfleet Academyreveals their characters' names and/or species.I also would really like to know the identities of Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti’s characters.Star Trek: Starfleet Academydoesn’t start filming until the fall, but I’d love to see the concept art of thelargest set ever built forStar Trek.

2Star Trek: Prodigy

C’mon, season 3!

Star Trek: Prodigyis getting its own dedicated San Diego Comic-Con panel on Sunday, June 28th. Celebrating the successful launch ofStar Trek: Prodigyseason 2 on Netflix are cast members Kate Mulgrew (Admiral Kathryn Janeway/Hologram Janeway), Brett Gray (Dal R’El), and executive producers and series creators Kevin and Dan Hageman.

Of course, the biggest announcement I’m hoping for is that Netflix has renewedStar Trek: Prodigyfor season 3.Star Trek: Prodigyseason 2 endedwith an ideal setup for the new adventures of the Protostar Class USS Prodigy, and possible news thatStar Trek: Prodigyseason 3 is a go would be a cause for celebration. But I’m also expecting cool behind-the-scenes stories about makingStar Trek: Prodigyseason 2 from Kate Mulgrew, Brett Gray, and the Hageman brothers.

1Untitled Star Trek Origin Movie & Star Trek 4

A new Star Trek movie in theaters? I’ll believe it when I see it.

The theatrical side ofStar Trekis the purview of Paramount Pictures, so theStar Trekmovies (other thanStar Trek: Section 31) will not be part of Paramount+’s Star Trek Universe Hall H panel. Still,San Diego Comic-Con is the ideal place for Paramount to make some sort of announcement about the upcomingStar Trekmovies.Toby Haynes’Untitled Star Trek Originmovie is reportedly going to start filming in the fall, and I hope some information about this mysterious film will drop at Comic-Con.

That goes double for the long-delayedStar Trek 4,which is supposedly getting a new script by screenwriter Steve Yockey. Audiences are probably more interested in seeing Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto reunite the cast of the USS Enterprise in J.J. Abrams’Star Trekalternate reality, but that feels like wishful thinking. Still, it would be great to come away from San Diego Comic-Con as excited about the future ofStar Trek’s movies as I am about what’s coming up next for Star Trek on Paramount+.
