Finding the best deals on a new smart TV comes down to timing. But when is that perfect moment? It’s hard to figure out, but I’ve found that these are the best times to buy a new smart TV to get the best deals possible.
1Before the Super Bowl
One of the best times to buy a new TV is ahead of the Super Bowl. This is typically between mid-January and early February because, since 2004, the Super Bowl always takes place in February. During this time, companies and retailers offer massive discounts on budget and premium TVs as a ploy to help you watch the big game even better.
Sellers are also incentivized to provide discounts to clear stock of last year’s models in preparation for new sets, announced in early January at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), likeLG’s huge new OLED EVO’s. These two factors make the mid-January to early February window a good time to score a good deal on a smart TV.
As of this writing in late January 2025, I’ve spotted great deals on some of the best smart TVs, like the65-inch Sony A95L,65-inch LG C4, and its competitor, the65-inch Samsung S90D. And for less than $1,000, the75-inch Hisense U6Nis a cracking smart TV, perfect for some Super Bowl action.
2In Spring
TV manufacturers, from Samsung to LG to Sony, Hisense, and more, unveil their new TV lineups for the year at CES in early January. However, these new units usually hit the shelves in spring. To clear old stock, companies offer massive discounts on their yesteryear models.
The caveat of shopping for a new TV in spring is that it’s hard to find deals, let alone good deals on newly announced models during this time. However, that’s fine since TVs typically have minor improvements between generations that don’t make a huge difference to your everyday viewing experience.
To get the latest models at the best price, you must wait until the end of the holiday season to get them.
3During the Holiday Season
The start of the holiday season in November is not just the best time to shop for Thanksgiving and Christmas gifts. All kinds of goods are on sale during this time, and TVs are no exception, as you can find some of the highest discounts, from budget to premium options. So, if you want a good deal on a smart TV (whetherhigh-end or a basic smart TV), this is one of the best times to get a unit.
Massive discounts are offered on TVs, especially during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but in the past few years, we’ve seen amazing limited-time deals starting as early as November. The best option is to have your wallet ready and be on the lookout whenever such sales go live.
4On Amazon Prime Day
As the largest e-commerce platform, Amazon has an exclusive period with discounts on all products, including TVs.Amazon Prime Dayusually happens around or in mid-July, but dates can vary, so you need to look out for the platform’s announcement when the sale will be live.
It’s common to see Prime Day deals promoted on the internet, even by us, and it’s no hoax—Prime Day does offer good discounts.
