Since Apple’s WWDC 2024 keynote, we’ve all been excited about the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 software updates. But can your iPhone and iPad download these updates when Apple releases them to the public in fall 2024? Let’s find out below.

iPhone Models That Support iOS 18

As long as you own an iPhone that Apple launched in the last five to six years, you don’t have to worry about iOS 18 compatibility. The good news is that all the iPhones that support iOS 17 can also run iOS 18. This includes models released in 2018 and later. Here’s the complete list:

Unfortunately, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the only models that support all theiOS 18 features Apple announced at WWDC 2024.

If you have an older iPhone, you will miss out onApple Intelligence featuresand AI-powered Siri since they lack the A17 Pro chip. Some features like live audio transcription, Eye Tracking, and Music Haptics require an iPhone 12 or newer model.

Unlike iOS 18, iPadOS 18 won’t come to all iPads that currently support iPadOS 17. However, you should be fine if you own an iPad model Apple released in the last five years. Here’s the full list of compatible iPads:

Apple is dropping support for the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation) and iPad (6th generation) with the iPadOS 18 update. These models will be stuck on iPadOS 17 and may only receive security updates from now on.

Once again, to access all theiPadOS 18 features Apple announced at WWDC 2024— like Apple Intelligence and AI-powered Siri—you need an iPad with the M1 chip or later.

Some key features like Smart Script require an iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation), iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd generation), iPad Air (4th generation), iPad (10th generation), iPad mini (6th generation), or newer model. The Eye Tracking accessibility feature has a similar requirement, except that it will also be available on the iPad Air (3rd generation).

If your iPhone or iPad supports iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 but you don’t have the patience to wait till fall 2024 for the final stable release, you cantry the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 betaright now. However, this initial build lacks Apple Intelligence features, and you may encounter stability and battery drain issues.
