Summary

A newLegend of Zeldatheory suggests that Tarrey Town may be hiding a connection to an important part of Hyrule’s history. First appearing inBreath of the Wild, Tarrey Town is a relatively uniqueLegend of Zeldalocation for both its architectural style and the wide variety of races which call it home. While the settlement has continued to grow by the time ofTears of the Kingdom, and may even appear in future games as well, the location’s past could also be incredibly significant.

It is no secret that there are manyeaster eggs inTOTKandBOTWwhich make reference to past games. The long history of the franchise is constantly being acknowledged through items, music, and even place names. On the other hand,Tarrey Town seemingly stands in stark contrast to this; it is a brand new village, one which Link actively helps Hudson to buildinBOTW. AlthoughHudson himself calls back to classicZeldagames, on closer inspection, there may well be more to Tarrey Town than first meets the eye.

Tarrey Town Seems To Be Built On Top Of Ganon’s Castle

The BOTW & TOTK Location May Have Lore Secret

One of the first things that one notices about Tarrey Town is its location. The growing village is located on a circular piece of land almost completely cut off from the rest of Hyrule, as it is surrounded by what appears to be a deep ravine filled with a small amount of water. However, as noted byRedditusersing_elizabethxo, this piece of Hyrule’s landscape actually bears a striking resemblance to the location of Ganon’s Castle inOcarina of Time. As a result, it seems very possible that Tarrey Town is actually built over the ruins of Ganon’s Castle.

Tarrey Town Proves Ocarina Of Time Took Place Long Before BOTW

How Tarrey Town Hints At TOTK & BOTW’s Place On The Zelda Timeline

InOcarina of Time, Ganon’s Castle itself replaces Hyrule Castle after Ganondorf takes over Hyrule in the Adult timeline, only for it to crumble after Link defeats the Gerudo King in battle. As such,it is perfectly possible that the same land would be settled by Hudson countless generations later. While Hyrule Castle has evidently been rebuilt elsewhere, the geography of Hyrule changes with such regularity that this in itself is not too surprising.Death Mountain also constantly changesthroughout the franchise, and in comparison to a volcano a relocated building is far more reasonable.

The visual similarities between Tarrey Town and Ganon’s Castle are far too strong to dismiss as coincidence, making it clear that this is a deliberate reference. For example, the stone bridge that Link and Zelda use to escape the ruined castle is evidently still in place, and now serves as the only land-based entrance to the town. Furthermore, an association with Ganon could easily explain why the land wasn’t resettled until such a long time after the events of Ocarina of Time; only those who had long forgotten its past as a stronghold of evil would feel comfortable living there.

It is fascinating to see how even the seemingly brand-new Tarrey Town can actually have roots in such an iconic part ofThe Legend of Zelda. It is a subtle indicator of how long Ganon has been a plague on Hyrule, as time has seen the stronghold of arguably his most famous incarnation fade into obscurity. But at the same time, it also emphasizes Tarrey Town’s own promise of a fresh start, overwriting the evil of the past with the hope of a quirky new settlement for all inhabitants of Hyrule.
